Job Title: Weapons Systems Manager

Location: Portsmouth (Onsite). We offer flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Circa £55,000 commensurate with skills and experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and manage a team of specialist Engineers, overseeing installation, commissioning, diagnostics, and defect rectification activities across assigned naval projects.
  • Plan, resource, and supervise daily operations to maximise team efficiency, utilisation, and timely delivery of engineering work.
  • Provide technical and administrative leadership, including performance reviews, mentoring, and supporting ongoing training and development.
  • Apply expert-level problem-solving skills to resolve complex commissioning and diagnostic issues across a wide range of ship systems and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, operating within company procedures for SHE and Product Safety.
  • Act as a key technical point of contact, engaging confidently with project teams, customers, and authorities to advise on estimates, schedules, and engineering solutions.

Your skills and experiences:

  • Deep knowledge of ship weapon systems and equipment across Royal Navy platforms, with hands-on experience in commissioning, diagnostics, trials, and defect rectification.
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise engineering teams, manage multiple ship projects, and support team development through training, reviews, and mentoring.
  • Good understanding of project delivery within a wider business context, with the ability to contribute to performance improvement and liaise with wider business functions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to influence stakeholders, collaborate with internal teams, and build strong relationships with Royal Navy staff and external customers.
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
  • Working towards IEng, with aspirations toward CEng (preferred but not essential).

The Mechanical Weapons Service Team:

The function contributes to naval base operations, through-life support, maintenance, and project delivery for Royal Navy vessels, including Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers, Type 45 Destroyers, Type 23 Frigates, and HUNT Class MCMVs. The role ensures coordination and oversight of weapons systems and HP Air and Hydraulics services, aligning with statutory compliance, project specifications, and company safety and business goals.
