Job Description

E.ON is one of Europe's largest operators of energy networks and infrastructure and a provider of innovative energy solutions. Our employees are constantly working to digitise the energy world, achieve net zero and connect everyone to good energy. To achieve this, we are focusing our actions on sustainability, digitalisation and growth. We strongly believe that differences make us stronger and welcome all people into our inclusive and diverse culture.

At E.ON's Future Lab, we develop and incubate innovation and intellectual property from emerging digital technologies that enable a sustainable energy future. With a multidisciplinary team consisting of experts in the areas of Energy-, Electronics- and Electrical Engineering, Computer- and Data Science, as well as Digital Innovation Management, we discover radical, technology-oriented innovation opportunities, transform them into viable use cases, test them via prototypes and MVPs (both software and hardware); and eventually reintegrate them into the business or spin them off for external commercialization.

We are looking for a Working Student Communication Engineering (f/m/d) to join our E.ON Group Innovation GmbH team as soon as possible. If you are interested, please apply online.

  • Fuse data from various sensors by translating and formatting it into standardized industrial protocols (e.g., MOD, CAN)

  • Collaborate with external partners to gather, analyze, and develop sensor concepts and integrate them into system designs

  • Develop hardware prototypes and conduct regular visits to prototyping labs in Munich for Proof of Concept (PoC) development

  • Integrate and configure sensor data for cloud connectivity and IoT applications

  • Communicate and define system requirements in collaboration with experts in AI/ML, energy, RF, and electrical engineering

A convincing background:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering or a related field

  • Strong hands-on experience with embedded hardware platforms (e.g., ARM, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Jetson Nano)

  • Solid understanding of microcontroller architectures and sensor integration with embedded systems

  • Practical experience in debugging, soldering, and physical I/O testing of hardware systems

  • Proficient in Embedded C, Python, and C/C++ for real-time software development

  • Familiar with communication protocols: TCP/IP, Modbus (RTU/TCP), CAN/CAN-FD, I2C, SPI, UART, MQTT, CoAP

  • Skilled in using test and troubleshooting tools: oscilloscopes, function generators, logic analyzers, and multimeters

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure is an advantage

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; fluent in English (German is a plus)

  • Willingness to travel for collaboration and prototyping activities

An environment thats motivates you:

  • A task full of challenges, where we work together to ensure a successful induction

  • An appreciative working atmosphere in which mutual trust and respect play a decisive role in teamwork

  • A modern working environment that ensures a good work-life balance through flexible working and home office. A permanent presence at our location is not required
