Right now, we're looking for an outstanding Head of Communications and Marketing to lead our high-performing press and marketing teams. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Affairs, this is an exciting opportunity to lead and deliver the overall ABI communications and marketing strategy, and to shape the voice of the UK's insurance and long-term savings industry.

What's the job?

Leading a talented team, including three direct reports, you will oversee media relations, impactful multi-channel campaigns, and a range of stakeholder communications. Your work will be instrumental in promoting and protecting the sector's reputation whilst ensuring our members, consumers, and stakeholders in the wider industry are well-informed and engaged.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development and execution of the ABI's comprehensive communications and marketing strategy.
  2. Manage a proactive press office, adept at handling media enquiries and driving coverage that promotes the industry's reputation and objectives.
  3. Oversee the production of first-class content across our digital platforms, including the ABI's website, social media channels and member communications.
  4. Direct impactful campaigns across multiple media channels, ensuring consistent messaging and brand identity.
  5. Collaborate closely with colleagues and senior leadership to translate complex policy issues into clear, persuasive messages which gain traction with key audiences.
  6. Spearhead an internal communications strategy that promotes the ABI's values, supports the business plan, and fosters a culture of transparency and engagement within the ABI.
  7. Represent the ABI in media interviews and at key industry events, reinforcing our position as a leading voice in the sector.

What we're looking for:

  1. Extensive experience in media relations or journalism, with a proven track record of managing complex reputational issues with senior-level audiences.
  2. Excellent understanding of devising and running multi-channel campaigns.
  3. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a high-performing team.
  4. Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to simplify complex ideas and present them effectively and persuasively.
  5. A proactive, can-do attitude, capable of identifying opportunities, challenges and risks before they fully emerge.
  6. A strategic mindset, with the resilience and tenacity to drive long-term objectives.

This is a rare opportunity to advocate for and elevate our vibrant sector, whilst engaging with and influencing top decision-makers across the industry, media, and government.

Throughout the interview and assessment process, we will be looking for you to demonstrate our values; We are Brave; We take Ownership; We are Appreciative; We are Human and We are Curious.

We are open to flexible, part time and/or job share working - please let us know if this would be your preference. We work in a hybrid way with at least 40% of time in the office.
