Assistant Subnational Statistics Development Analyst

Our public sector client is looking for an Assistant Subnational Statistics Development Analyst to join the team to contribute to a wide range of analytical and research projects, working flexibly across project teams where needed. The role involves the creative and innovative use of data (both survey and administrative) to develop granular indicators at regional and subnational levels. The projects in this team will include exploring data and methods, sometimes using linked survey data where relevant, to build subnational estimates from the bottom up, and developing innovative models and simulations for regional and subnational estimation.

Skills and Experience

  • Data analysis, visualisation, and programming in Python/R.
  • Improving quality and reusability of code using version control (eg Git) and contributing to the development of reproducible analytical pipelines.
  • Best programming practice (ie in developing Reproducible Analytical Pipelines).
  • Undertaking analytical projects, including liaising with various stakeholders as necessary.
  • Good understanding of the links between data and the empirical world.
  • Explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Machine learning experience.
  • Analysing large databases using PySpark from various sources of data.
  • Agile management of data science projects.

Day to Day

  • Developing solutions using a range of analytical techniques
  • Working with analysts in the division to facilitate the use of the linked administrative datasets.
  • Delivery of outcomes - being proactive, and taking initiative for solving problems
  • Organising a complex workload, to prioritise, and manage rapidly changing demands and priorities whilst maintaining professionalism.
  • Working independently but also as part of a team or collaboration to deliver impact.
  • Developing analytical capability, continuously seeking to expand your range of technical skills, helping to grow others' analytical skills.
  • Design and application of machine-learning models
  • Developing innovative data-science techniques for solving statistical problems
