Job Description
Thisis an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, well organised and motivatedpodiatrist with a keen interest in the at risk foot, to join our team. Youwill be responsible for assessment and planning of individual patient care,working autonomously and as part of the high risk wound care team to providehigh quality podiatric care to those patients who need it the most. Excellentcommunication skills and team working are essential.

Youmust demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of current evidence-based practice andbe able to apply this appropriately clinically. A drive to improve your skillsand expand your expertise is desirable for this role. We deliver patient carein a variety of clinical and community settings with a caseload focusing on themedically at risk and/ or those who have a high podiatric need.

You will be involved in nail surgery sessions, high risk clinics andhave the opportunity to rotate through the foot protection team andmusculoskeletal clinics in order to support the development of your skills andinterests further.

You will work alongside experienced podiatrists and encouraged in yourprofessional development. We are committed to CPD and promoting evidence-basedpractice and providing a high standard of care throughout the service. We offersupport through regular 1:1 meetings, clinical supervision, in-house CPD, andongoing training to support the development of all our staff.

Main duties of the job
  • You will work as an integral member of the podiatry team to deliver quality programs of podiatric care to patients who have an assessed need.
  • Provide treatment at a variety of sites including a patients home, clinics, hospitals & elsewhere often working in isolation.
  • Work as part of a MDT and acting as a source of advice to patients, carers, GPs & other Health Care Professionals.
  • Being responsible for the day to day operational management of a specific clinic location, working as a lone practitioner in some cases.

Job responsibilities Clinical duties:
  • To belegally and professionally accountable for all aspect of own work, includingthe management of patients in your care.
  • Toassess, diagnose, treat and mange a caseload of patients, in line with thepodiatry service criteria.
  • Applyeffective assessment and diagnostic criteria to formulate agreed treatmentplans, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care to a variety of patientswith a wide range of clinical needs including: high risk diabetes, chronicdisease (chronic neuropathies, rheumatoid arthritis, vascular problems), ulcer/ would management, people with acquired or congenital disabilities and thosethat present with challenging behaviours.Where appropriate, referral to specialist practitioners, otherhealth care professionals or discharge.
  • Undertakediagnostic procedures using appropriate equipment e.g. doppler ultrasound,wound swabs, effectively,interpreting, recording and reporting the results.
  • Tomaintain high professional standards and code of conduct according todepartmental and HCPC guidelines.
  • Toundertake basic biomechanical assessments in order to prescribe and dispenseorthoses.
  • Toundertake surgical intervention using local anaesthesia for complex nailpathologies.
  • Undertakehealth promotion activities to groups / individuals / clients and otherprofessionals as appropriate.
  • To beproficient in the use of information technologies including video consultationswith clients and for in-service training.
  • Tocommunicate effectively with all clients and relatives regarding theappointment / procedural systems and relevant healthcare advice, e.g. hometreatment plans, exercise regimes.
  • Adhereto all service statements within the Podiatry Operational Guidelines and jointworking practices and protocols of the team.
  • To maintainaccurate electronic clinical records and to understand the documentation process.
  • Thepost holder will be required to work in a poor environment. It is the responsibility of the podiatrist tohighlight any health and safety issues and to undertake a risk assessment tominimise / reduce risks.

  • To workas an autonomous clinician working within professional and organisational guidelines.Monitoring emails and tasks on a daily basis and responding in a timely manner.

  • Toensure all clients receive the appropriate quality of care at all time whilstobserving the policies and procedures of the organisation.
  • Contributeto departmental development, participating in staff meetings and professionalworking groups and being a role model for junior staff.
  • Toparticipate in individual performance review, one to one meetings and clinicalsupervision.
  • To completethe organisations mandatory training in accordance with the mandatory trainingpolicy.
