Building Physics Engineer role, Salary up to £52,000

Your new companyOur client is a well-known, international multidisciplinary consultancy based in Glasgow. Their team of highly-qualified mechanical and electrical engineers have many years of experience in all aspects of building services engineering: from preliminary planning and construction management to supplementary services upon completion. Their clients operate throughout the Aviation, Energy, Cities and Development, Education, Transportation and Defence sectors. This opportunity involves working as part of a JV team on the Nuclear Technical Support Provider framework to deliver specialist nuclear technical services to support DIO, Navy Command, and other MOD organisations.They are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing Team. This is a great opportunity to join a well-established organisation that can offer you the access and support you need to aid your learning and development. You will be expected to run your own projects, working through the RIBA stages as well as working as part of a larger team. The office has a relaxed, flexible culture and regular social incentives take place.

Your new roleYou'll play a key part in the sustainability team and will have the opportunity to lead projects and mentor junior team members. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead building physics aspects of projects, including dynamic thermal modelling, energy analysis, and daylight simulations.
  • Develop and implement innovative, sustainable design strategies to optimise building performance.
  • Conduct detailed energy performance assessments, including Part L compliance, TM54 operational energy analysis, and BREEAM evaluations.
  • Provide expert advice on building envelope performance, natural ventilation, and indoor air quality.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to seamlessly integrate building physics solutions into MEP designs.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and present findings to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Stay abreast of industry advancements, regulatory changes, and emerging trends in building physics and sustainability.

  • What you'll need to succeed
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Building Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards Chartership with a relevant professional body (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in building physics engineering, ideally within an MEP consultancy environment.
  • Proficiency in thermal modelling software (e.g., IES VE, TAS, DesignBuilder) and other relevant analytical tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK building regulations, standards, and sustainability certification schemes (e.g., BREEAM, LEED, WELL).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a strong track record of successful project delivery.
