The British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) is the inter-professional organisation that represents the UK egg industry.
Its members are the 11 trade organisations which cover all aspects of the egg industry - from breeding to processing. Set up in 1986, the principal function of the BEIC is to represent the interests of the UK egg industry in discussions with Government agencies and officials, MPs, Peers, devolved administrations and other bodies. The BEIC owns the Lion Quality trademarks and administers the Lion Code of Practice, the world's leading food assurance scheme for eggs which sets higher standards of both hygiene and animal welfare than is required by UK or retained EU legislation. BEIC also owns and administers the Code of Practice for the Production of Lion Quality Egg Products.
BEIC is funded exclusively by a voluntary levy on packers, producer/packers and egg processors who subscribe to the Lion Code and between them represent over 90% of egg output in the UK. Given all of these qualities, BEIC is recognised by Government, Parliament, Retailers and other stakeholders as the representative voice of the UK egg industry.
The OpportunityThe CEO will be the figurehead for the industry with a clear purpose of further developing the BEIC to ensure it continues with its positive industry profile, enabling widespread awareness and understanding of its role and values. This role has a unique and exciting breadth from influencing government, effective administration of the Lion Quality Scheme, maximising the impact of its marketing budget, collaborating with other member organisations on important issues affecting British Agriculture and representing BEIC in the media and at conferences. However, and most importantly, the CEO will continue to ensure BEIC delivers impact for the members and industry it represents.
The CandidateThe role requires an individual who can demonstrate strong commercial leadership skills, with a proven track record working in the agri-food industry, either within a business or trade association. The candidate will have exemplary integrity and communication skills allowing them to navigate internal and external conflicts using their own judgment to make decisions for the industry rather than individual members. Candidates will also be able to evidence experience of engaging and successfully influencing a wide-ranging group of stakeholders. Above all else, candidates will have the passion and ambition to embrace this opportunity and the industry it represents.
