The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is a global coalition of financial institutions committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the economy in line with government commitments under the Paris Agreement. Over 675 financial institutions from more than 50 jurisdictions have individually committed to the goal of net zero by 2050, in line with science-based pathways to limit warming to 1.5 degrees C. As an integral part of progressing our work, GFANZ engages with a broad set of public, private, and third sector bodies, including regular engagement with international organizations, international standard setters, and national policymakers across the G7, G20, and beyond. We are looking for a self-starting, well-organised, analytically strong chief of staff with excellent communication skills to support GFANZ Public Policy and the wider policy team in an intellectually engaging and fast-paced environment.

The job holder will:

  1. Support senior stakeholders, working with the wider team, to develop and implement an ambitious approach to our external policy engagement, identifying opportunities across major moments in the international calendar, including G7, G20, and COP.
  2. Support senior leadership on key external engagement and communication by proactively identifying and prioritising engagement opportunities, preparing speaking remarks and presentations, and supporting on some international travel.
  3. Lead a portfolio of climate finance policy work, developing policy analysis for the wider policy team to support core deliverables and ad hoc briefing and engagement on specific topics.
  4. Coordinate team input and comments to both internal and external analytical and policy work, ensuring strategic and clear policy feedback.
  5. Ensure timely follow-up on requests from leadership and external partners, commissioning work from others as needed.
  6. Substitute in for the MD and Global Head in some international meetings, taking notes of discussions and debriefing the team thereafter.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. A relevant degree or several years of relevant work experience in climate policy, economic or financial policy, public administration, or in business or finance.
  2. A keen interest in understanding the state of play on public and financial policy as it pertains to climate and net zero transition.
  3. A self-starting problem-solving approach, ensuring effective team delivery across responsibilities.
  4. Excellent analytical skills to independently undertake research for speeches, briefings, reports, or external engagement.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. A very strong team player, willing to develop relationships across GFANZ and with key stakeholders.
  7. A willingness to support administration for the MD and Global Head, ensuring meetings are scheduled and logistical arrangements made.
