fluidXlab is a leading provider of cutting-edge laboratory services and turnkey (micro)fluidic solutions for fluid testing and the investigation of flow through porous media. While developed for the upstream oil and gas industry, our innovations, technologies, and solutions are scalable, expandable, and portable across other subsurface energy systems such as the underground storage of hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CSS) or carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) and deep geothermal energy utilisation, important elements in a carbon emission-free energy economy.

As we continue to expand, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and optimise our laboratory operations.

Position Summary

The COO will play a pivotal role in the strategic and operational leadership of fluidXlab. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will be responsible for overseeing the company's daily operations, with a strong focus on staff leadership, project management, and client communication. The ideal candidate will be a results-driven leader with a passion for excellence and a track record of enhancing operational efficiency in a laboratory or similar environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations to ensure seamless and efficient service delivery.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to optimise laboratory performance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of operational units, adjusting as necessary to improve outcomes.

Staff Development

  • Foster a collaborative work environment that encourages professional growth and development.
  • Implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of laboratory staff.
  • Mentor and guide team leaders, helping them achieve their potential and contribute to the overall success of the company.

Project Management

  • Lead and manage multiple laboratory projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Develop project plans, allocate resources, and set priorities to meet project objectives.
  • Implement project management best practices and tools to improve project delivery and client satisfaction.

Client Communication and Relationship Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs are understood and met with the highest level of service.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, enhancing client trust and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the sales and business development team to develop strategies for client acquisition and retention.

Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Work closely with the executive team to develop and implement the company's strategic goals.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and improvement, and develop plans to capitalise on them.
  • Lead initiatives that drive innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage.
  • Monitor operational expenses and identify opportunities for cost optimisation.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all laboratory operations comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Implement quality assurance programs to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in laboratory results.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a management role, preferably in a laboratory or operational environment working on CSS/CCUS or hydrogen storage topics.
  • Proven experience in staff development, project management, and communication.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
