As a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist working for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, you will be responsible for ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care.
You will manage the community mental health team and Memory service, providing clinical care to service users referred for older adults mental health care and specialist cognitive assessment.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for patients in their caseload within the Community Mental Health Team and Memory Service. They will provide a consultative, supervisory, and supportive role to the multidisciplinary team, participate in clinical work, and lead the development of the service. The post holder will ensure timely access to services and smooth pathways between primary care and secondary services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe overall pathway for the older adult service at SSNC includes:
- All referrals are added to the Assessment pathway upon receipt.
- Initial assessments are completed by medics within the team.
- Cases are transferred to either the Memory Clinic, CMHT, or Care Home Liaison Team as appropriate.
- Referrals are triaged by the post holder.
- For cognitive assessments, follow-up appointments are scheduled as needed.
- For functional patients, appointments are arranged for assessment.
- MbChb, MBBS or equivalent
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
- Full registration with General Medical Council
- Excellent clinical knowledge in specialty
- Experience in working previously in similar roles
