This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, mature service to provide both medical and psychological treatment for individuals and families with severe mental health needs. There will also be opportunities for the post holder to lead on service development in line with Trust principles and governed by national standards.

The post is within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) providing a community service and has close links with local authority, education, and the wider borough structure. The post holder will be joining a skilled, motivated, and innovative MDT committed to continual learning and development and will be offered excellent CPD opportunities.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join our CAMHS team in Richmond. The postholder will join 12 CAMHS Consultants within the Trust Service Line. This is a part time, 9 PAs (5PA's in T3 Richmond CAMHS and 4 PAs in the Kingston and Richmond Single Point of Access Service), substantive post. This post has become available due to the previous post-holder retiring.

The post-holder will be responsible to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Clinical Director of Southwest London St George's Mental Health Trust.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Directorate of Southwest London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust is a well-established provider of mental health services to the boroughs of Richmond, Sutton, Kingston, Merton and Wandsworth.

The local Richmond CAMHS team is highly specialist comprising of family therapy, psychology, risk management nurses and DBT specialist. The team has access to trust wide services such as the DBT group program, eating disorder service, emergency services covering the 3 acute hospitals served by the Trust and a Learning Disability Service together with a Deaf Service and a Neurodevelopmental Team.

Person specification QUALIFICATIONS
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
ELIGIBILITY
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty, especially the assessment and management of neuro-developmental disorders in children and adolescents.
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
  • Training in specialist assessments tools, e.g., 3Di, ADOS etc.
ACADEMIC SKILLS & LIFELONG LEARNING
  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
  • Ability to work in and lead a team
  • Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement.
