This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join the CAMHS Tier 3 service in Wandsworth at Springfield Hospital in the heart of Southwest London as a Consultant Psychiatrist.
We offer highly specialist CAMHS services, combining expertise in CYP moderate to severe mental health services, embedding I-Thrive across our Boroughs.
The post is within a multidisciplinary team providing a community service with close links to local authorities and schools. The post holder will join a skilled, motivated, and innovative multidisciplinary team committed to continual learning and development, with excellent CPD opportunities.
We are looking for a consultant with the interest and skills in providing strong medical leadership to advance our services. The role is offered on a permanent basis, alongside a tailored management leadership programme for interested individuals.

Main duties of the jobThe post-holder will be a Consultant Psychiatrist providing medical leadership to the CAMHS Tier 3 service in Wandsworth at Springfield hospital, offering medical psychiatric advice to patients.
The Consultant will work in the Wandsworth CAMHS Team, providing multidisciplinary assessment, care coordination, and treatment for young people with moderate mental health problems. While primarily responsible for delivering quality clinical services, the consultant psychiatrist is also expected to be actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services, collaborating with the team manager and locality manager to steer service development in line with the strategic direction of the organization.
The Consultant will carry overall responsibility for day-to-day clinical care, risk assessment, risk management, initiation of medication, and recovery-focused care delivered by the Team. The Consultant will receive robust support from the clinical Team Manager, Associate Clinical Director, Clinical Director, and, when necessary, the Medical Director and Chief Executive.
The role is offered on a substantive basis with 10 PA's.

Wandsworth CAMH is located within the grounds of Springfield hospital and is a 10-minute walk from Tooting Bec underground station, also near bus routes.

Job responsibilities- Provide medical leadership within the team.
- Be available during normal working hours for urgent assessments including mental health act assessments.
- Conduct assessments in Tier 3, usually one to two a week, depending on active case load.
- Administer treatment with medication and conduct mental state monitoring.
- Manage ADHD shared care case load of 80-100.
- Conduct CPA reviews with care coordinators and team members as agreed with the team manager.
- Perform assessments at local District General Hospitals for psychiatric emergencies.
- Occasionally conduct psychiatric assessments outside the team base (e.g., home visits).
- Participate in occasional GP liaison meetings.
- Engage in occasional meetings with colleagues in paediatrics and community paediatrics.
- Liaise with the London Borough of Richmond children's social care and education departments.
- Chair the CAMHS higher trainees Seminar (usually once per academic term) and provide training on Neurodevelopmental Disorders to the team and colleagues across CAMHS. Provide clinical supervision when a CAMHS higher trainee is within the team.
- Participate in regular Learning events where clinicians share skills and knowledge.
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
- Additional clinical qualifications.
- In good standing with GMC regarding warnings and conditions on practice.
- Excellent knowledge in the specialty, especially the assessment and management of neuro-developmental disorders in children and adolescents.
- Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience, including contributions from others.
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the post within NHS or comparable service.
- Training in specialist assessment tools (e.g., 3Di, ADOS, etc.).
- Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
- Ability to work in and lead a team.
- Demonstrates commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working to deliver improvement.
- Participated in continuous professional development.
- Participated in research or service evaluation.
- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
- Actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
- Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post.

- Experienced in clinical research and/or service evaluation.
- Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit, and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations, and publications.
- Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes for patients.
