There is a vacancy for a full-time (10PA) consultant post to work in Cedar Ward, a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) based at West Park Hospital in Darlington. This is a replacement post and an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team working in a dynamic and highly specialised environment.

Cedar Ward is one of two PICUs within the trust, with the other located at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough. Cedar Ward takes referrals for patients from the geographical areas of Durham, Darlington, Easington, Northallerton, and Harrogate.

Main duties of the job

Cedar Ward is a 10-bedded inpatient unit providing psychiatric intensive inpatient care to acutely unwell and disturbed clients aged 16-65 years. The unit includes a seclusion room, and clients generally have to be detained under the Mental Health Act prior to admission.

The unit emphasises multidisciplinary team working, recognising the complex needs of its clients. It is committed to Force Reduction drivers and enhancing the client experience of care through leadership partnerships with psychiatry, psychology, and nursing staff.
