Consultant Symptomatic Breast Radiologist

Job summary

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant Radiologist, with a specialist interest in Breast Radiology, to join the existing team of 81 Consultant Radiologists in post across UHB.

The successful applicant will be expected to join our team of enthusiastic Consultant Radiologists to contribute to the increasing workload of the department which has been driven upwards by a combination of service expansion, cancer pathway driven targets and multidisciplinary meeting attendance.

The successful applicant will be expected to have completed specialist training in Clinical Radiology by the time of taking up the post.

The successful applicant should have the breast screening accreditation and training from any of the national breast screening training centres is desirable.

All aspects of Breast Imaging are undertaken by Breast Radiologists and Consultant Radiographers including:

  1. Breast Symptomatic Film Reading
  2. Image-guided biopsies
  3. MRI reporting
  4. Staging CT scans reporting
  5. 2nd line Vacuum Assisted Excisions
  6. Stereotactic and US guided wire localisations
  7. Breast MDM presentations

Leadership & Governance:
  1. Ensures service delivery by the department is within the resources available.
  2. Helps manage demand and prioritises on the basis of need imaging services as required.
  3. Demonstrates excellence in patient quality care.
  4. To cover for radiologists as required during time of leave in order to maintain a good service.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
  1. The post holder must be willing to join an established collaborative department which involves working closely with radiological colleagues to provide a comprehensive and cohesive service.
  2. Contribute to the design and implementation of imaging service by applying the latest evidence and delivering high quality patient care.
  3. Have excellent radiology report writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues. To develop and maintain effective networks within the region enabling best practice to be identified and implemented by the Trust.
  4. The post holder must have well-developed listening and communication skills and be able to interact effectively with a wide range of clinicians, managers, and professionals both within and outside the Trust.
Planning and organising:
  1. Be willing to be involved with and implement a comprehensive Breast imaging service including multiple modalities.
  2. Contribute to the discussion on the future development of general imaging services within the department.
  3. Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement.
  4. Effectively plan, communicate and execute changes ensuring engagement and involvement.
  5. Support the department in achieving its financial and performance targets.
Administrative support

Office space and shared administrative support will be provided.

Person specification Qualifications

Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview.

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development including CME.
