London's transport shapes the lives of millions. Transport for London (TfL) is one of the world's best known and most successful integrated transport authorities.
At TfL, we manage c.£9bn of income annually, delivering more than 30 million journeys daily across our extensive network. Our Corporate Finance team (part of the CFO function) makes the strategic capital raising, financial risk management and liquidity decisions that help move millions of people across the capital every single day.
Our financial activities, capital and financial risk management decisions are instrumental in delivering an affordable and modern transport network. As Corporate Finance Director, you will play a key part in shaping the future of transport in London, ensuring financial sustainability and driving value across all of our operations.
About the role
In this role, you'll report into the CFO and work closely with the other Finance Directors, Procurement and Commercial Senior leadership team, Executive committee members and the TfL leadership team to deliver strategic outcomes for London, instilling a financial approach and mindset that ensures effective delivery of our vision to be a strong, green heartbeat for London. You will contribute to making the long-term financing and financial risk management decisions for TfL.
Driving forward our transformation programme, you will create an operating model that is ready for the challenges we face today and the future, with the correct structure, ways of working, processes, technology and governance. You will drive TfL to clearly define the vision and execute a challenging strategy for current and future financial activity, enabling the delivery of TfL's long-term business plan.
We are looking for someone to ensure our financial roadmap is delivered and our finances are re-built through embracing new sources of revenue, remaining affordable for customers and establishing a long-term funding arrangement with government.
You will lead an extremely talented and diverse team of around 25 project finance, treasury and insurance specialists to manage capital structure; project financings; debt, cash and wider risk management strategies of TfL. You will ensure our people are the key to making the vision a reality and lead on making the whole CFO Family a diverse, inclusive and great place to work.
About you
You will be a highly experienced Finance Leader with broad experience of capital raising through the debt markets and other sources, treasury, financial risk management (interest rate, inflation, foreign exchange, liquidity, credit) and structured/project finance activities. A strong background in infrastructure or utilities from a large and complex organisation is essential, as well as exposure to the insurance market. Knowledge of local government finance would be advantageous.
You will also have experience of structuring and executing complex financial transactions, including structured finance, public/private partnerships, acquisitions, leasing and securitisations.
With experience of operating at Board level, you will be comfortable managing a range of senior stakeholders from financial institutions, rating agencies, the wider capital markets community and central and/or local government, navigating the political environment.
As a member of the TfL's Finance Leadership team, you will play a leading role in the delivery of a multi-billion modernisation programme for London supporting our capital's economic growth.
There is a vast amount to deliver over the coming years, so the role requires the very best and experienced person. You will have demonstrable experience of improving colleague engagement through leading and motivating highly professional teams. We aspire to be as diverse and inclusive an organisation as we can, so candidates who can demonstrate a track record in improving equality, diversity and inclusion outcomes will be especially welcomed.
Collaborating with key senior stakeholders, you'll ensure we continue to deliver for London, keeping it a world-leading city and the productive heart of the UK economy.
