King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK's largest and busiest teaching Trusts. We are a large, local provider of diagnostic, surgical and treatment services for common cancers aiming to provide the best possible care to cancer patients and develop and deliver better treatments. Cancer pathways at King's form part of an interlinked network of cancer care with partner Trusts and community services within the South East London network, and beyond.

The post holder will assist the Cancer Performance Manager in ensuring that trust-wide cancer data collection mechanisms are robust and will be responsible for the recording of Cancer Outcome and Services Data set (COSD). This will involve developing complex information reporting tools, presenting detailed analysis, and providing expert analytical and statistical advice to support the admin teams, management, cancer nurse specialists and clinicians.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Analyse and interpret cancer data to support the cancer management teams and the cancer data teams.
  • Be organised, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work to tight deadlines with a track record of delivering results.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively, with flexibility for travel to other sites in the organisation as required.

The role would be ideally suited to someone with a minimum of three years' experience of working in the NHS, in a Band 4 or above position, and who is proficient in data analysis, clinical audits, and information management.

  • Provide training to the cancer data teams and clinical teams on the data recording system (Epic) in use according to the trust policy.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Ensure appropriate data validation/data quality checks are routinely carried out and that missing or inaccurate data is followed up proactively.
  • Ensure that cancer data is reported to the Trust and the National Disease Registration Service (NDRS) within appropriate timescales.
  • Initiate and plan statistical/analytical work programmes based on the requirements of clinical teams and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc reports for the Trust and SELCA, and present data at meetings when required.
  • Compile regular monitoring reports indicating progress towards agreed standards and highlight problem areas.
  • Ensure the COSD is updated in a timely and accurate manner to enable the clinical teams to meet the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) targets.
  • Maintain close communication with the clinical teams, MDT coordinators, and Cancer pathway Trackers, updating them regularly on work progress and alerting them to any concerns in data capture trends.

Information Systems and Data Management

  • Link with the Business Information Unit and SELCA to ensure cross-checking of data and contribute to the continuous development of information systems to improve data collection.
  • Maintain knowledge of the COSD guide and ensure that information regarding new developments or changes to these standards is effectively communicated.

Research and Service Development

  • Participate in the further development of COSD in Epic.
  • Provide data for service improvement as requested by the services.

People Management and Performance

  • Coach and manage the cancer data teams in line with good people management practices, ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
  • Work with all multi-disciplinary teams to improve the standard of recording the key performance indicators for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Assist the Cancer managers in providing training to others.
  • Continuously support in improving the morale of the team and implement a culture of zero tolerance for bullying and harassment.
Person Specification
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent clinical/healthcare knowledge, skills, and experience.
