JOB PURPOSE

The Quant Solutions Group (QSG) is a global, cross-asset team that builds the software and analytics that underpin the Global Markets business. The analytical software developed by QSG is widely used across CIBC, helping the Distribution team to price trades and serve clients, Trading to manage their risk and Structuring to identify new client opportunities. The team is split between London, Toronto and New York, with this role being based in London.

In this role you will work as a Data Scientist using techniques from machine learning, data science and AI to solve problems faced by the trading and distribution desks in Global Markets. The role will involve working closely with quants, technology, trading, and sales to co-discover problems and develop solutions that contribute to our business' growth. You will be handling large data sets, carrying out R&D for model selection and development, as well as taking solutions through to production. You will develop supporting infrastructure for your models such as web-based front ends in Plotly Dash for user interaction. You will be an excellent data scientist as well as having a broader computer science knowledge to deliver solutions that have impact.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work with quants, sales, and trading to understand the problems and develop solutions that contribute to growth.
  • Develop, train, and test models using a broad range of methods from machine learning, AI, and other areas of computer science, choosing the right tool for the right job.
  • Deploy models to production.
  • Take responsibility for your models in production. Monitor and ensure the performance of models.
  • Develop web-based applications using high level frameworks like Plotly Dash so that your models can be leveraged in the business.
  • Provide support for users of your production applications.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

We are looking for an experienced data scientist with excellent interpersonal skills. The following specific attributes are a useful guide to the level of performance expected:

  • A master or PhD in machine learning or equivalent.
  • Excellent skills in Python development.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of techniques in AI, e.g., machine learning, reinforcement learning and statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of predictive and generative models, including LLMs.
  • Broader knowledge of computer science.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Knowledge of financial markets a plus.
  • Knowledge of web-based app frameworks such as Plotly Dash a plus.
  • More experienced candidates should be able to demonstrate how they have successfully deployed machine learning models to deliver real business benefits.
  • Highly motivated individual with a genuine passion for finding elegant and practical solutions using AI in financial markets.
