The IT Department at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic, ever-developing, forward-thinking group of people that make up a team that strives to keep the Trust's systems up to date and responsive to cutting edge technologies, whilst ensuring staff at the Trust are supported to continue to deliver at the highest level.

We currently have a 12-month fixed term opening for an eCARE (EPR) Test Lead, supporting the latest development of the Trust's Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system called eCARE (Oracle Cerner Millennium).

The successful post holder will have experience working in a healthcare environment, including the support of staff and the testing of Oracle Cerner solutions; they will have a formal testing qualification, and experience leading a small team of testers driving the best practice.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the provision of highly specialist eCARE Testing services to the Trust. Areas of responsibility include, but not limited to, testing of the Trust's Electronic Patient Record (eCARE) System. Will test remotely, and provide support to other testers via phone, email and remote tools to assist in the testing of eCARE, this may require the identification and resolution of complex testing challenges.

  • The post holder will require a good understanding of the operation and configuration of the Trust's currently deployed eCARE applications, functionality, and workflows and to ensure that it supports the Trust's business processes and objectives on an on-going basis.
  • Under the guidance and direction of the eCARE Development Manager create comprehensive testing and training materials prior to any supported application being placed into service. Documentation to be used by the IT Technical Support team and system end-users will be required before supported applications are put into service.
  • Support the testing of clinical application enhancements and new application deployments under the direct supervision of the eCARE Development Manager. Where necessary develop and run test scripts to confirm system reliability and resilience.
  • Work unsupervised, prioritising own workload and operating on own initiative to answer queries and solve problems, taking advice from eCare Development Manager when necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will provide highly specialist eCARE Testing support to all testers within the Trust under the guidance and direction of the eCARE Development Manager. In this capacity the post holder will be responsible for all the activities associated with the testing of the eCARE System in accordance with established policies and procedures. This will include but not be limited to the following activities.

The post-holder will work closely with eCARE Development team, CCIO, CPIO and CNIO to understand the workflow and expected functionality being delivered so that comprehensive test scripts be developed.

Develop highly complex test scripts under the direction of the eCARE Development Manager to validate any system modifications and upgrades that will be released to the organisation as and when required.

Test any new deployments and system upgrades under the direction of the eCARE Development Manager. This will include testing new departments, wards etc and producing test scripts to validate processes with the change team and end users. These scripts will be used to sign off the local build and configuration of the system.

Manage, direct and deliver a business-as-usual eCARE Testing support and advisory service to internal IT staff and wider Trust staff completing User Acceptance Testing.

As directed by the eCARE Development Manager provide eCARE Testing project support to any business led eCARE Project Workstreams that have been engaged to deliver new eCARE solutions. The post holder will provide senior level testing support to the workstreams covering the design, build, configuration and deployment of these solutions working with a Cerner solution expert where required.

Ensure that full technical testing documentation for all deployed eCARE solutions is created and made available to eCARE Development and IT Back Office staff.
