TEP is an environmental consultancy with a team of over 40 permanent ecologists. We have a variety of opportunities for ecologists to join us working on a wide range of interesting projects. We work with NGOs, government and commercial clients.

We are looking for ecology field surveyors to support our team for the 2025 survey season. Applicants should have a scientific background, but experience may range from recent graduates through to experienced ecologists including those holding protected species licenses (primarily for Great Crested Newts and Bats).

The core survey season is March to September. TEP operates throughout the UK but the work for which we are currently recruiting is predominantly in the Northwest and Midlands, based at either our Warrington or Market Harborough offices - A full driving license and access to a vehicle is essential.

A Selection Day will be held in Warrington on 10th January 2025 - This will introduce TEP and feature talks from experienced surveyors on the requirements of the role.

Following the selection day, interviews will be held the week of the 20th January.

Opportunities are available to join us on either a freelance or fixed-term contract basis from Spring to Autumn 2025. Candidates are invited to apply for either one or both positions. Freelance ecologists will work primarily on protected species nocturnal surveys and fixed term ecologists will gain experience working in the office environment alongside nocturnal survey work.

Following the Selection Day we will invite successful candidates to join our team either on a fixed-term contract or on a freelance basis to work with us. For those considered for fixed-term contract positions we will ask shortlisted candidates to attend a short interview to explain more about the role and understand each candidates experience and aspirations.

TEP invests heavily in staff training with free to attend opportunities available to fixed-term staff and/or freelancers including:

• In-house training courses (including office and field sessions) covering GCN and bat legislation, ecology, ID and survey methods.

• A program of voluntary lunchtime CPD sessions covering a wide range of topics including emerging trends and new research in ecology through to updates on legislation and best practice.

• Significant on-the-job learning hours providing experience towards applications for various protected species licenses.

• Voluntary job shadowing opportunities across a range of other consultancy skills including an introduction to botany and ornithology survey techniques and a variety of office-based services including research and analysis.

• Opportunities for botanical training and a place on the Field ID Skills test accredited by Botanical Society of the British Isles

• Chance to work alongside leading landscape designers, managers and arborists in a multi-disciplinary consultancy led by environmentalists.

As an equal opportunities employer we actively value diversity in our workforce and welcome applicants from all sections of the community, particularly those which are underrepresented in the sector. Even if you don't feel you meet all the criteria for the role, we would still welcome your CV for discussion.

As a Disability Confident Committed employer, we will guarantee an interview for all disabled candidates meeting the eligibility criteria.

We hold investors in people gold standard accreditation and invest significantly into the health and wellbeing of our people.
