Job Description:
Roles and Responsibilities
•
Developing a product based on an Android System on Module (SoM) requires a combination of embedded programming skills and Android app development knowledge. Here are the key skills and areas of expertise I am looking for.
•
Understanding of Android's architecture, including the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Experience with Linux kernel, so you need knowledge of Linux kernel internals and device drivers. This includes configuring and customizing the kernel for your specific hardware.
•
Experience creating or modifying a BSP for Android SoM, which involves setting up the hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and ensuring hardware components are correctly supported in Android.
•
Experience of bootloaders like U-Boot and fastboot, as these are essential for booting Android on embedded systems.
•
Proficiency in cross-compiling Android and kernel components for target hardware.
•
Familiarity with communication interfaces like I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO for interacting with sensors, displays, and other peripherals.
•
Experience in GStreamer multimedia framework with understanding its concepts, pipelines, elements, and plugins.
•
Understanding of networking protocols and configurations especially about Multicast, VLAN setup. Proficiency with version control systems like Git or subversion. Debugging tools like ADB, logcat.
Good to Have:
•
Android app development using Java or Kotlin, and familiarity with Android Studio for development
•
Desired to have exposure around implementing CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment of the Android system.
•
experience with optimizing the system's performance, including memory usage, CPU utilization, and responsiveness.
•
Experience with HW/SW integration, collaborating with hardware engineers, firmware developers and app developers.
Annual Hiring Range/Hourly Rate:
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level. The pay ratio between base pay and target incentive (if applicable) will be finalized at offer.
