Job Description

Role Title: Senior Principal Project Controller
Location: Bristol or Farnborough- 2 to 3 days per week onsite
Duration: 12 months
Clearance required: SC Cleared
Salary: £65,000 to £70,000 based on experience

Overall Purpose of the Job:
The role is responsible for the delivery of Project Control, scheduling and EVM administration & support across all projects and programmes

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leading by example, communicating purpose and expectations, developing and motivating the team, creating inclusivity, participation and involvement and encouraging innovation and creativity
  • Undertaking tasks and activities, as required, in the delivery of planning & scheduling
  • Championing Best Practice and applying lessons learned within the team, with programme and project teams and other key delivery partners
  • Developing and maintaining regular, open and positive lines of communication within the team, with the leadership, programme and project teams and other key delivery partners
  • Managing, motivating and coordinating the team to achieve specified objectives
  • Engaging, mentoring and supporting the team in their career development and providing guidance that enables the transfer of learning into effective practice for the team
  • Working knowledge of programme management principles and how project planning, scheduling and control activities underpin them
  • Maintain project schedules and keep project resources on track, provide regular project updates to stakeholders, and maintain contact with the team to monitor job progress.
  • Integrate multiple schedules into a master project schedule, including baselining, status and performance measurement baselines
  • Execute EVM using the company tool (Cobra)
  • Produce EVM reports and execute project controls in alignment with ANSI guidelines
  • Analyse EVM and provide EVM analysis support and guidance to the Project Team
  • Using EVM techniques such as Cost Performance Index (CPI), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC)
  • Support customer/internal IBR's
  • Detailed knowledge of a number of technical areas, such as: project controls, EVM, governance and assurance, risk analysis and management, cost management/control/reporting, benchmarking, data
  • analysis and reporting.
  • Significant knowledge of the development and delivery of complex project schedules using proprietary planning tools, specifically PPM2016 or Primavera P6 - to enable the definition and implementation of
  • software management processes and procedures
  • Development and reporting of project schedule data to senior stakeholders (operating at IDT lead,
  • Director level and above) in a complex projects environment

Successful outcomes of this role:

  • Up-to-date, accurate, reliable and timely outputs that are trusted and accepted by the leadership, programme and project teams in support of projects up to LCM Level 4
  • Planning & Scheduling outputs that contribute to meeting or exceeding business plan revenue and margin targets for projects up to LCM Level 4
  • Troubleshoot and monitor potential scheduling problems
  • Execute EVM and produce timely reports
  • Provide detailed explanations of project variances and propose corrective actions to keep the project on track.
  • Development, introduction and implementation of project schedule analytics and reporting methodologies and techniques (such as Critical Path analysis)
  • Established and regular engagement with the leadership, programme and project teams for projects up to LCM Level 4

Person Specification

  • Essential Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent or 10 years' relevant experience
  • Programme or Project Controls Qualification - Practitioner or equivalent
  • Project management qualification; APM membership desirable.
  • Experience of operating as a project or programme scheduler in a complex environment
  • Experience of managing a complex project or programme is desirable
  • Strong understanding of EVM principles and metrics
