Full Professor of Experimental Astrophysics

The position:

The Isotope Physics Group, which operates the Vienna Environmental Research Accelerator (VERA) for the development and application of Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, plans to strengthen its expertise in the field of nuclear astrophysics. The new professorship will complement the existing group members by building a bridge to astrophysics/chemistry to explore the origin of the elements in the universe. We are looking for a person with profound knowledge in the field of experimental physics (accelerator mass spectrometry and related techniques, cross-section measurements, ion beam methods). The professorship includes the supervision of the operation and modernization of VERA as well as own research at VERA on topics in nuclear astrophysics with a focus on accelerator mass spectrometry applications. Additional expertise in one of the following areas is desirable: (i) modelling of nuclear and/or stellar processes, (ii) transport of interstellar/interplanetary dust, (iii) ion-laser interactions and/or ion-gas reactions. The successful candidate will be required to give basic and advanced physics lectures and engage in outreach activities.
