Role Overview

In this role, you will report to the Group Chief Operating Officer (COO) and be responsible for developing and implementing data strategies and driving data transformation initiatives across the firm to transform the way the organisation utilises data to achieve its business objectives. You will work closely with the Global Technology teams and divisional / business domain COOs to design and implement data products to solve business needs leveraging innovative technologies like AI and Snowflake to enable the acceleration of the delivery of the data strategy. You will be accountable for the prioritisation and structuring of the data strategy, shaping of a delivery programme, ongoing prioritisation, firmwide communication and the collaboration of data specialists across the various business units.

What you'll do
  1. Collaborate with executive leadership, business leads and heads of technology to define a data transformation vision and develop strategic roadmap for leveraging data to drive business growth and innovation in support of key business objectives.
  2. Chair and structure the agenda and focus of the Data governance Council.
  3. Lead a team of business data specialists who are in turn directly aligned to the relevant business COO functions.
  4. Be accountable for the prioritisation and structuring of the data strategy delivery programme by shaping the long-term vision and ensuring pragmatic and agile execution in the near term.
  5. Formulate and implement data strategies aligned with business goals, identifying opportunities to leverage data analytics and insights for competitive advantage.
  6. Lead the development and execution of data-driven initiatives to support business goals, including data governance, data quality, and data management.
  7. Work closely with individual business domains, technology teams, and business leaders to help them establish data teams, define data products, establish governance of these data products, adopt the central data platform, foster a data culture, and measure success, while prioritising data problems that have the greatest impact on the organisation.
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with key technology vendors and partners to ensure that the firm has access to the latest data technologies and solutions.
  9. Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation, including business leaders, data scientists, and technology teams, to ensure that data problems are identified and resolved collaboratively and in a timely manner.
  10. Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices related to data strategy and transformation, and bring new ideas and approaches to the organisation.
  11. Collaborate with technology and business leaders to drive the adoption of modern data principles, such as domain-driven design and decentralised data ownership, across the organisation, with a focus on mitigating financial cost, operational risk, and opportunity cost.
  12. Collaborate with technology on the use of innovative technologies like AI and Snowflake to enable the acceleration of the delivery of the data strategy.
  13. Assess and ensure that we have the efficient deployment of associated resources i.e. that we have the appropriate capability and capacity for driving the data strategy forward across the business.
  14. Establishing data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data integrity, security, and regulatory compliance across the organisation.
  15. Leading organisational change efforts by driving data-driven culture and mindset, influencing stakeholders, and fostering adoption of new data-driven practices and technologies.
  16. Overseeing the design and implementation of scalable data architecture and infrastructure to enable efficient data collection, storage, integration, and analytics.
  17. Collaborating with data analysts and data scientists to develop advanced analytics capabilities, enabling data-driven decision-making and actionable insights for various business functions.
  18. Working closely with cross-functional teams and business units to understand their data needs, aligning data transformation efforts with their specific requirements and goals.
  19. Monitor and report on the progress of data-related initiatives establishing metrics and KPIs to track the effectiveness and impact of data transformation initiatives. Provide regular reporting and insights to senior leadership ensuring that they are delivering value to the organisation and addressing critical data problems.
  20. Provide guidance and support to teams working on data-related projects, helping them to navigate complex data challenges and make informed decisions.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. computer science, data science, business administration).
  2. 10+ years of experience in a data-related role, with a track record of success in developing and implementing data strategies and driving data transformation initiatives.
  3. Strong leadership skills, with experience managing teams of data professionals.
  4. Strong understanding of modern data principles, such as domain-driven design and decentralised data ownership, and their application in an enterprise setting.
  5. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the business.
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive business decisions.
  7. Experience with data governance, data quality, and data management best practices.
  8. Knowledge of emerging data trends and technologies, and the ability to develop strategies for leveraging these to drive business value.
  9. Experience with implementing data products to solve business needs, and using innovative technologies like AI and Snowflake to enable the acceleration of the delivery of the data strategy.
  10. Knowledge of and experience implementing data management and governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK and DCAM.
