We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of People who will play a key role in shaping the company's culture, develop and drive the overarching people plan, and ensure the growth and engagement of our employees. With a strong focus on commercial success and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), the successful candidate will be responsible for translating the strategic direction of the organisation and business goals into long, medium and short-term plans, processes and practices, which attract and retain high performing employees who can grow with Transreport as we scale and evolve.

This role will be responsible for all aspects of human resources, including talent acquisition, employee engagement, learning and development, performance management, total rewards, organisational development and succession planning. The Head of People will be a key member of the leadership team, leading the current HR team and liaising with wider stakeholders. ensuring that our people practices align with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic HR Leadership:
  • Develop and implement HR plans and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Lead the existing HR team and support current HR manager in providing comprehensive HR services to all employees.
  • Partner with the executive team to support and drive the company's commercial objectives.
Commercial Acumen:
  • Understand and anticipate business needs and market trends to align HR plans and practices with business goals.
  • Contribute to business planning and budgeting processes with a focus on workforce planning and cost management.
  • Develop, analyse and interpret HR metrics and KPIs to drive data-driven decision-making.
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI):
  • Champion EDI initiatives across the organisation to promote a culture of inclusivity and belonging.
  • Develop and implement EDI policies and programs that attract, retain, and promote a diverse workforce.
  • Monitor and report on EDI progress and provide recommendations for improvement.
Talent Management:
  • Oversee talent acquisition and retention processes to ensure the company attracts and retains top talent.
  • Implement performance management systems that support employee development and organisational goals.
  • Develop and manage succession planning programs to ensure leadership continuity.
Employee Engagement and Culture:
  • Foster a positive and engaging workplace culture that reflects the company's values and mission.
  • Develop a compensation and incentive scheme which brings a total rewards perspective into the organisation.
  • Implement initiatives to improve employee engagement and productivity.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to management on all employee-related issues, adopting a proactive approach to solving problems. Facilitating resolutions in line with company policies.
Training and Development:
  • Design and implement training programs that enhance employee skills as well as leadership and management capabilities.
  • Promote continuous learning and professional development opportunities for all employees.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments.
Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure the company's HR practices comply with local, national, and international regulations.
  • Manage employee relations issues and provide guidance to managers and employees.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures that support the company's objectives and compliance requirements.
Knowledge, experience, skills and behaviours
  • At least ten years of relevant experience in a senior HR role, preferably in a commercial or business-focused environment.
  • A strong understanding of the EDI landscape and experience of developing and embedding EDI strategies.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to align HR strategy with organisational goals.
  • Deep understanding of UK employment law, with the ability to navigate and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Demonstrating the ability to manage HR operations across diverse international, multi-cultural geographic regions.
  • Experience working with disabled employees, including developing and implementing inclusive policies and practices that support their needs.
  • Experience of developing and implementing HR strategy for all aspects of operational activity, and ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements and managing risk.
  • Demonstrated experience of successfully managing blended work environments including on-site, work from home arrangements, fully remote employees.
  • Degree educated in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related fields; equivalent experience candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Provide management and strong leadership of the HR function and staff, including advice and direction on work priorities, budget and staff resources, strategic and policy issues, organisation and staff management issues.
  • Knowledge of best practice and compliance in HR and experience of overseeing effective employee learning and development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills e.g. role modelling giving effective feedback and being open to feedback, giving concise summaries of complex topics, confident to deliver internal presentations, adapting communication style to suit different individuals and audiences.
  • Pragmatic management approach that balances hands-on achievement of objectives as a team, whilst empowering others through effective delegation when necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities and work in a fast-paced, scale-up environment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to adapt plans to evolving circumstances and shifting resources, showing resourcefulness to achieve pre-agreed outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities, finding ways forward without full information.
  • Balanced approach between long-term strategic planning and short-term tactical achievement of immediate objectives.
  • Experience of implementing HR systems to streamline processes and practices inc. HRIS, ATS, LMS, HCM etc.
