Thought The AA only provide roadside assistance? Think AA-X.

Technology has made human life easier; from booking holidays and banking, through to meeting new people and work opportunities. But over the last decade owning and driving cars has gotten far tougher. At AA-X we are on a mission to re-invent the car ownership and usage experience.

We imagine, build and grow connected car ventures. Using data and AI to provide car and driver insights with new solutions that give drivers control, confidence and a little joy across their motoring lives.

As a Head of Product Engineering within AA-X, you'll be part of the UK's largest and most trusted driving company, developing and testing human-centric products and services fast; whilst giving AA members first access to everything we build. Are you ready for a career where you're always ahead?

This is the job

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Product Engineering to join our AA-X team. This role will work closely with the AA-X Engineering Director to define delivery, implementation, and operation of the AA-X technology ecosystem, enabling great customer outcomes.

You will support the growth of the IT and Engineering function within AA-X and collaborate with Lead Engineers to create high-quality, consistent, and predictable services for AA-X and its customers.

What will I be doing?
  • Define and prioritise the tech and architecture strategy for the AA-X B2B portfolio, ensuring continuous improvement with AA Group Chief Operating Office (COO) teams.
  • Assist in creating the 1-12 month roadmap for AA-X propositions, focusing on technical and business priorities with tech leads and engineering squads.
  • Oversee technology delivery according to the AA-X program and go-to-market plans, ensuring solutions meet product requirements and service levels.
  • Focus on outcomes and priorities, take responsibility for delivery, and trust the experts to achieve the best results for AA.
  • Reward impact over effort, support and challenge teams for accountability, and encourage big thinking for continuous improvement.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, ambition, and innovation, balancing short- and long-term goals while recognising great work by other teams.
What do I need?
  • Experienced technology leader with expertise in modern technologies, Agile methodologies, and architecture patterns i.e., TDD, CI, and CD.
  • Hands-on experience in multiple software development projects, familiar with Cloud/DevOps environments, and developing end-to-end solutions for digital apps.
  • Proven track record in recruiting, retaining, and developing a diverse tech team, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience partnering with in-house Recruitment teams to strive towards people resource goals.
  • Active coach and mentor, focused on growing and maximising the team's potential, and able to communicate and report to leadership effectively.
  • Innovative thinker who believes in a non-hierarchical culture of interaction, transparency, and trust, and is willing to find new solutions outside traditional frameworks.
  • Leads with integrity, compassion, decisiveness, and a positive outlook towards the future, understanding the benefits of working within a large corporate environment.
