Role Overview

Smart Transport Hub is seeking a dynamic Head of Technology and Data Collection to lead our innovation in transportation solutions. As part of the senior leadership team, you will oversee and grow both the research and development and implementation of advanced technology systems and the management of traffic data collection efforts. You will play a key role in onboarding new clients, ensuring they successfully integrate with our cutting-edge technological solutions, including our flagship software product, Smart Lenz.

Additionally, you will take on a business development function, driving the expansion of our client base by developing new pipelines and fostering strong relationships. The role also involves representing Smart Transport Hub at industry conferences and coordinating marketing materials to promote our technology and data collection services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Technology and Data Collection teams, overseeing both temporary data collection projects and technology research and development.
  • Drive business growth by identifying new opportunities, building a pipeline of clients, and securing future work with both new and existing partners. Ensuring CRM systems are updated to support this.
  • Overseeing financial budgets and ensuring financial management systems are kept up to date.
  • Attend monthly financial performance meetings to present updates on finance matters.
  • Ensuring staff receive training and development and annual appraisals along with their personal development plans.
  • Attend industry conferences and represent Smart Transport Hub, promoting our technology and data collection capabilities.
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to develop promotional materials for the Technology and Data Collection divisions.
  • Lead and assist with proposals for new commissions and frameworks.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction and efficiency improvements.

Data Collection Responsibilities:

  • Effective leadership and management of data collection teams (site operations and project coordination).
  • Ensure effective project management and delivery of high-quality, technically excellent solutions for our data collection clients.
  • Maintain high standards of quality assurance and implement best practices in data collection processes.
  • Support bids for new business, building strong client relationships and securing future work.
  • Ensuring finances are kept up to date for all projects.

Technology Responsibilities:

  • Lead the expansion of Smart Transport Hub's technology and data collection capabilities, including hardware and software development.
  • Collaborate with clients, partners, and internal teams to ensure the successful development and implementation of new technological products and features.
  • Take responsibility for onboarding new clients to our existing technological solutions, ensuring seamless integration with products like Smart Lenz.
  • Manage the entire lifecycle of projects, from conceptual planning to successful implementation, focusing on innovative transport technologies.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Data Analysis, Computer Science, Transport Planning, Project Management or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in building stakeholder relationships, partnerships, and business development.
  • Experience in onboarding clients to new technologies and solutions.
  • 3-10 years of experience in local government transport teams, transport data collection, technology development roles.
  • Proven experience managing and growing diverse and cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a proactive approach to task management and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook).

Desirable Experience and Skills:

  • Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, APM).
  • Proficiency in understanding traffic data and big data analysis.
  • Experience with coding languages.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation for highway projects.
  • Business development experience, with a proven track record of building client pipelines.
  • Experience working in a UK local authority.
