How will you make an impact in this role?The Global Compliance & Ethics team plays a critical role in protecting American Express, our brand and colleagues through practical, solution-focused guidance on regulatory and ethics-related matters.
Within the International Compliance organisation, the International Insurance Compliance team performs second-line oversight of the insurance business in International, ensuring a robust and sustainable compliance risk management framework. The team is responsible for providing Compliance engagement on the management of strategic multi-country compliance risks and performing execution of core components of the American Express Compliance Risk Management Program.
Reporting to the Vice President Head of Compliance Large Markets and International Insurance, the Director Insurance Compliance will be responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining a comprehensive and sustainable compliance program for the insurance business across International.
- Leading a team of experienced compliance managers responsible for execution of the compliance risk management program including strategic compliance risk management, oversight of the Annual Compliance Plan, issue management, regulatory change management, compliance testing and compliance risk assessment.
- Point of escalation for the team and stakeholders, ensuring appropriate and timely resolution of risks and issues.
- Communicating the status of the compliance program including strategic initiatives, risks, issues and key metrics to leadership.
- Collaborating with a broad group of stakeholders including GCO, Market Compliance, Global Financial Crimes Compliance, Privacy and Operational Excellence teams, to ensure compliance with Enterprise-wide policies and procedures and local regulatory requirements.
- Providing compliance input on the development and evolution of centrally managed capabilities, processes and controls to enable the business to comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Contributing to planning and program tracking activities to ensure appropriate traction and reporting of strategic risks and initiatives in the region, proactively identifying funding and resource requirements.
- Seasoned people leader with experience building and transforming teams and leading and developing individuals across multiple locations.
- 5 to 10 years' experience leading a compliance program and/or complex multi-market projects addressing compliance and control requirements including Insurance Regulation.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and associated control and compliance framework would be an advantage.
- Proven ability to set the agenda on complex, evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
- Self-motivated, energetic team player with proven ability to drive results in changing and ambiguous situations in a complex matrixed organization.
- Strong relationship and collaboration skills with the ability to build relationships and influence a broad group of stakeholders, at all levels.
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate complex topics in a clear and effective manner to senior leaders across the organisation.
- Bachelor's degree and or compliance/legal qualification advantageous.
