Job Description

Robert Half have partnered on an exclsuive engagement with an establish public services organisation based in the Peebles area to recruit an IT Support Engineer on a permanent basis.

Key Responsibilities:

Cyber Security Management

  • Implement and oversee the organization's cyber security strategies, ensuring robust protection against threats.
  • Monitor security alerts and respond promptly to potential breaches, managing any investigations and reporting incidents to the Data Protection Officer (DPO).
  • Maintain and update security policies, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and retention policies within the M365 environment.
  • Manage the Security Awareness Program, including enrolment, course management, and phishing simulations.

License and Software Management

  • Ensure compliance with all software licensing agreements, including M365, Entra, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and other critical software.
  • Manage third-party software, such as signature tools, ensuring proper licensing and integration within the IT ecosystem.
  • Oversee the purchase, renewal, and compliance of all software licenses.

Telecommunications Management

  • Manage all aspects of the organization's telecommunications, including VOIP systems, mobile phones, a number of FTTP connections and leased lines across various sites.
  • Liaise with telecom providers to resolve issues, manage contracts, and oversee the installation and maintenance of communication infrastructure.
  • Assist in the selection of new telecom providers and technologies, ensuring they meet organizational needs.

IT Infrastructure and User Support

  • Oversee the management of AD/M365 user accounts for on-site and remote users across multiple locations, ensuring proper access controls and security measures.
  • Manage on-site and remote Servers, in coordination with external support teams, to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Support desktop, laptop, and mobile devices across the organization, using remote management tools for maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure network infrastructure, including Firewalls, Switches, and Wi-Fi access points, is secure and efficient, liaising with external support as needed.
  • Manage a number of PCs and printers used by patients to access the Internet and word processing, these PCs have filtering, and security software installed and are all standalone.
  • Manage network printers, including secure printing codes, printers all accessible remotely. Toners are on a remote automatic ordering system. Small number of desktop printers are used by some staff and patients, stocks of toners are kept and maintained.

Vendor and Budget Management

  • Review and sign off on IT-related invoices and quotes, ensuring cost-effective procurement and maintenance of IT resources.
  • Manage vendor relationships, particularly with IT support and telecom providers, to ensure service quality and contract compliance.

IT Training and Support

  • Provide IT training to staff, ensuring they are equipped to use the organization's technology effectively and securely.
  • Manage IT onboarding and offboarding processes, including equipment provision and access configuration for new and departing staff.

Data Management and Compliance

  • Oversee the secure destruction of data from decommissioned hardware and ensure responsible disposal of electronic equipment.
  • Maintain the Intranet and SharePoint site, managing content and user access to ensure data integrity and compliance.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Liaise with the communications department on issues related to domains, hosting, and digital credentials.
  • Work with HR and department heads to ensure staff have the necessary IT resources and permissions for their roles.

Person Specification

  • Experience in IT management, particularly in cyber security and telecommunications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on clear and effective collaboration.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in managing security and compliance issues.
  • A valid driving license and access to own transport for site visits.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple sites and adapt to the needs of the organization.
  • Proven experience managing M365 in a hybrid environment.
  • Hands-on experience with IT infrastructure, including server management, network security, and device management.

Salary/Logistics:

  • £28,000 - £35,000 DOE
  • Based onsite near Peebles
