Job Description

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a JavaScript Front End Developer for a 12 month contract (Inside IR35E) contract based in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Blackpool, Newcastle or Sheffield 40% office attendance required.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK's biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to:
. Help people to move into work and support those already in work to progress, with the aim of increasing overall workforce participation
. Help people to plan and save for later life, while providing a safety net for those who need it now
. Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society
. Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer.

As a JavaScript Front End Developer, your main responsibilities will be:
. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team responsible for turning concepts into production-ready user-centred services
. Responsible for building accessible and performant interfaces across multiple devices and browsers
. Work within a test driven development (TDD) environment with modern web development tech stacks
. Write and share quality test-driven code, using modern frameworks and development techniques
. Responsible for Integrating into Back End services, working with cross-functional teams to ensure services are built to high standards
. Responsible for ensuring that the design and implementation of services is consistent, both internally and with the rest of wider UK government services
. Responsible for Identifying and understanding technical and business constraints, and responsible for work within them whilst contributing back to existing government frameworks
. Responsible for seeing the bigger picture within which the service operates to help define and maintain standards
. Responsible for contributing to code reuse and contributions to shared repositories
. Responsible for undertaking training to upskill on Front End development techniques, methods and tools to further develop knowledge and skills

Essential:
. JavaScript and Node.js - A strong knowledge and practical experience of developing and maintaining Server Side JavaScript applications using Node.js. This should include experience of unit testing using a library such as Jasmine, Jest or Mocha.
. Nunjucks Templating - Hands-on experience with Nunjucks or equivalent templating engines in a Server Side rendering context. Ideally with experience of using the GOV.UK design system.
. HTML and CSS expertise - Advanced knowledge of semantic HTML and CSS, including preprocessors such as SASS.
. API Integration - Experience integrating RESTful APIs and working with JSON.
. Experience building interfaces that comply with the latest WCAG accessibility standards.
