The Field-based Scientific Expert is responsible for the implementation of the medical plan in the region and the deployment of the local strategy, contributing to the introduction of new oncology products on the French market, to best meet the medical needs of patients.

This position will be responsible for supporting all pre-launch stages of oncology products in medical affairs by deploying the national strategy at the regional level to build and sustain strong and lasting relationships with opinion leaders, research teams, and key organizations involved in the development of JAZZ's pipeline across all oncology fields.

Main responsibilities include: Analyze and master the medical and scientific data from the clinical development of JAZZ's oncology products, engage strong relationship with French investigator's centers for products in development and ensure the medical team's contribution to monitoring these centers at the appropriate time, championing insight from peer-to-peer interactions with HCPs, assisting the generation of new data, driving innovation in medical projects, responding to unsolicited requests from HCPs and modelling exchange of unbiased scientific information through medical education.

Essential Functions

Supports company-sponsored and Investigator Initiated Research
  • Supports in the implementation and monitoring of studies conducted by JAZZ, supporting head office teams and clinical operations:
    • Identifies investigator centers within their sector for new clinical trials and/or large-scale projects led by the European/Global medical team.
    • Participates in feasibility studies.
    • Contributes to the training of investigators and their teams on the product during study implementation.
    • Monitors the proper conduct of clinical studies in the centers within their sector.
    • Presents the trial results to the teams at the investigator centers.
  • Responds to requests for Investigator Sponsored Trial (IST) grants, and facilitates the submission and review of ISTs in accordance with Jazz standard operating procedures.
  • Identifies and selects scientific study projects proposed by clinicians in their region and submits them for approval to their management in accordance with Jazz procedures.
  • Identifies opportunities for collaborative research projects and presents them to their management in accordance with Jazz procedures.
  • Supports the implementation of collaborative research projects within the centers in their sector and ensures follow-up with the healthcare professionals at the relevant centers
Positions self as Scientific Expert
  • Is recognized by HCPs as an expert of Jazz Oncology products and the therapeutic area with evidence of peer to peer collaboration.
  • Proactively and routinely maintains an up to date reference level knowledge of the therapy area, Jazz products, new and emerging areas of research, therapeutic issues and trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Internally in Jazz, acts as a role model to colleagues and supports the relevant development plans and onboarding of others Including acting as a scientific knowledge mentor to other MSLs in the country or region, coaching on the understanding and communication of data.
  • Establishes reputation as a trustworthy and knowledgeable source of scientific and medical information for the healthcare community.
  • Supports development of Jazz Pharmaceuticals positioning as the scientific authority in Oncology.
  • Attends appropriate scientific congresses to stay abreast of developments and to support Global, Regional, National and local External Expert (EE) activities and Jazz interests.
  • Acquires a broad understanding of local and national protocols and standards of clinical practice and trends in disease management in France and EUR/INT.
Develop External Relationships
  • Develops mutually beneficial relationships with National and Local External Experts in France, leading to a productive two-way scientific exchange and achievement of mutually agreed upon objectives related to educational projects, data generation, publications, etc.
  • Supports national EE advocates, speakers, consultants and advisors through provision of scientific and clinical information.
  • Identifies patient associations groups (PAG) and supports them in implementing initiatives aimed at improving the care of cancer patients.
  • Develops and maintains a national and regional database of key strategic contacts for each relevant product and disease area.
  • Identifies educational and research gaps and opportunities aligned with the Medical Plan.
  • Acts as a coach to MSLs to drive continual improvement of scientific exchange and EE collaboration skills and accurate record keeping.
Medical Affairs Planning and Plan Execution
  • Strategically contributes to the development of the French Medical Plan and provides deep insights-based input into International, National and Local strategies and tactics.
  • Where needed, manages relevant budget to enable execution of Medical Plan tactics as part of the wider Medical Affairs team.
  • Acts as an exemplar in the conduct of collaborative cross functional working of Jazz for patient benefit (key account team working).
  • Collaborates with Medical leadership to strategically deploy MSL resources to meet business and stakeholder needs.
  • Interacts with HCPs as a scientific resource to support activities aligned with the Medical Plan including advisory boards, speaker development and clinical trials.
  • Able to lead one or more national (and sometimes International) medical projects in addition to territory projects.
  • Deputizes for the Medical Lead when requested in cross functional meetings or brand reviews.
Provision of Medical Information
  • Anticipates and provides accurate, unbiased and balanced scientific and medical information to both internal and external customers on request and in a timely manner.
  • Designs and delivers best in class, scientific, educational meetings executed in accordance with Jazz and local regulatory and legal frameworks.
  • Provides scientific information to supplement the clinical experience of HCPs and ensure appropriate positioning of Jazz Pharmaceuticals medicines within relevant national and local protocols, guidelines and formularies in order to ensure appropriate access.
  • Communicates emerging data and the clinical experience with our products through scientific exchange and peer-to-peer interactions discussing benefits and risks in an objective manner.
  • Acts as a topic or theme lead, working with other Medical Affairs colleagues to look for local or global trends in Medical information questions to inform strategy.
Responsible for maintaining Company standards and Jazz Values
  • Consistently acts and helps others to enhance Jazz Pharmaceuticals' image as an advocate of medical advancement by using knowledge of product, disease state and pipeline products to engage healthcare providers in meaningful scientific exchange of information.
  • Communicates updated standards and best practices to the other Medical Affairs colleagues.
  • Document and forward reports of adverse events and product complaints according to Jazz's policy to ensure safe and effective use of Jazz Pharmaceuticals' products.
