South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a fixed term Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to cover a period of Parental Leave. The successful candidate will join an extremely dynamic department of 67 Consultants, 14 SAS doctors and 30 rotating specialty trainees.
The post holder will work in collaboration with the existing team to provide a high quality, progressive and professional anaesthetic service within a broad range of surgical specialties.
Main duties of the jobThe job plan will cover a wide range of surgical specialties with a focus on obstetric anaesthesia, ENT, and emergency surgery.
This post is offered at 10 basic Programmed Activities (PAs) consisting of 8.5 PAs Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities. Additional SPA may be available to those who take on additional roles.
Clinical sessions may be performed at any of the Trust's sites. A varied portfolio is available consisting of elective and non-elective care in a wide range of surgical specialties for both adults and children.
On call duties will be within the general on call rota (1 in 26) and weekend trauma rotas (4 weekend days per year) at Sunderland Royal Hospital. Participation in the on-call rota at South Tyneside District Hospital is expected to be in place by the date of appointment.
Job responsibilitiesTo work under the direction of the Clinical Directors to coordinate and deliver the strategic and operational aspects of the Anaesthesia and Critical Care services across the region. These will reflect National and Local priorities including the strategic direction of South Tyneside and Sunderland Hospitals Trust and the Division of Perioperative and Critical Care.
The post holder is expected to be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCST in Anaesthesia at the time of accepting the post.
Consultant performance is monitored within the Directorate and strong emphasis is given to personal career development, in line with clinical governance. All consultants must comply with Trust policy for revalidation and job planning.
Person Specification Skills and Knowledge- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrable evidence of good team working
- Interest in Obstetric anaesthesia
- Interest in perioperative medicine
- Interest in anaesthesia for head and neck surgery / difficult airway management
- Evidence of skills required for paediatric anaesthesia appropriate to the district general paediatric population
- An understanding of the use of benchmark data to guide service development
- Must hold FRCA or equivalent qualification
- Hold a CCST and be on GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC Specialist Register
- Demonstrates the ability to organise and deliver teaching and training
