Job Description
Locum Consultant in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine

This is a fixed term locum post to provide increased Consultant Respiratory and General Medicine physician cover as part of the rising demands of winter pressures.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and enthusiastic team who believe in leading from the frontline with the aim of providing outstanding care to our community and investing in the well-being and development of our people.

We take pride in being a very functional and supportive department with a clear vision to provide the best respiratory care possible to our patients. We would welcome candidates with defined sub-specialty expertise but also those candidates prepared to develop a sub-specialty area of expertise complementary to those within the department.

Main Duties of the Job

This is a 10 PA locum post for a Consultant physician at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust providing cover for a general medical ward and increased input to the respiratory of the day and clinic activity.

About Us

Respiratory Medicine is based out of the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) site in Reading within our own self-contained department providing a comprehensive range of outpatient services inclusive of full respiratory physiology support and clinical nurse specialists.

We have an inpatient unit with 50 beds, including eight beds within a Respiratory Support Unit. We also have a purpose-built pleural procedure room on the ward for elective and non-elective pleural lists.

The team provides a Respiratory of the Day (ROD) service that is staffed on a rotational basis. This allows early, daily assessment of patients by a Respiratory Physician on the Acute Medical Unit and medical wards with benefits including earlier commencement of a specialist treatment plan, reduced admission rate, facilitated admission to a Respiratory ward and early supported discharge with the help of the community.
