Main duties of the jobThe candidate will be able to participate in departmental teaching and study opportunities and will be able to attend recognised courses where they do not compromise service delivery. The unit is supported by a full Orthoptic department and a highly trained nursing team, providing a glaucoma service, RMD service and one-stop cataract assessment. The Ophthalmology Department is primarily based at the Treatment Centre for both out patients and day case procedures. In patient work and paediatrics is carried out in the main hospital as well as ophthalmology. We also provide a range of consultant outreach services in local community settings.
Job responsibilitiesThe post will be based at Queens Hospital, Burton but we expect flexibility to be able to work across all sites of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Foundation Trust should the need arise.
Person Specification Qualifications- MBBS qualified and possess FRCOphth or equivalent
- GMC registration and a license to practice at time of application
- Possess FRCOphth or equivalent
- Fellowship in special interest
- Relevant Higher Degree or equivalent
- Eligible for entry on GMC Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview and entry on GMC Specialist Register by date of commencement or evidence that the GMC is processing the Specialist Registration application (MUST be provided prior to interview)
- Proven clinical experience in Ophthalmology, with a broad experience of the speciality, minimum of 6 years, 3 years of which should be at speciality registrar level
- Filtration surgery experience
- Experience of and undertaken Clinical Audit, with recently presented findings
- Ability to carry out high volume cataract surgery
- Experience of audit management
- Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduates
- Evidence of the delivery of high quality teaching.
