Department: Trauma and Orthopaedics

Band: 5, £29,970 - £36,483 Per annum, pro rata if part time

Hours: Part time, 16 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

This role aims to promote and support effective use of data, information, knowledge, and technology to inform the delivery of high quality innovative clinical care and outcomes for patients suffering Traumatic injury

Main duties of the job

The surgery division at MKUH, which covers specialties including theatres and the Intensive Care Unit, offers a variety of roles and opportunities, both clinical and non-clinical. The division are looking for passionate, enthusiastic and forward-thinking professionals to join the team.


MKUH is one of the leading hospitals in Europe for implementing robotics to assist in surgery, becoming the first in the continent to use the CMR Versius robot for gynaecological surgery. Since its introduction in 2019, the theatres team have completed over 500 surgical cases, the first hospital in the UK to reach this milestone, achieving this in March 2023.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Undertake timely and accurate data collection for NMTR ensuring that relevant staff are informed and involved.

Establish a process for identifying NMTR patients and communicate this to relevant other members of staff e.g. physios and trauma nurses. Explain NMTR inclusion criteria to other relevant staff.

Person specification Qualifications and knowledge Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent experience of leading an information system development.
  • Strong IT skills in relation to Microsoft packages including word/excel to NVQ level 3.
  • ECDL qualification or equivalent
  • Knowledge of relevant Acts i.e. Data protection which affect daily operations.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of the importance and meaning of NHS performance targets internal and external.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
Experience Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in statistical analysis, report writing and development
  • Relevant administration experience working within a clinical environment
  • Experience of using IT/Patient data Systems
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently input and retrieve information on a computerised system whilst adhering to complex local and national policies and guidelines
  • Experience of using: CRS EDM Choose and book Winpath PACs ICE
  • Experience of reviewing data and making amendments to processes based on results, including providing feedback to other teams to ensure the TARN data is presented in an understandable and user-friendly way
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of handling inbound and outbound telephone calls of a potentially sensitive nature.
  • Experience and awareness of management reporting and project evaluation

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, including ability to relate to people
  • Experience or working in a team and developing effective working relationships with staff at all levels
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and delegate workload, giving attention to detail.
  • Evidence of working under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Manage and interpret data correctly to inform decision making.
  • Take responsibility for own actions, behaviours and achievement of work objectives and goals.
  • Ability to work independently with no guidance and minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to explain KPIs and other data and their significance to colleagues at all levels
  • Good awareness of the importance of managing the public image of MKUH, ability to ensure that raw data is properly contextualised and explained before publishing
