Job overviewWe are looking to appoint a highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic individual to undertake this newly created senior role of Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) Operations Director. You will be the senior officer responsible for the operational services of the RRDN. The expectation is that the successful applicant will commence in post by no later than 1 July 2024.
Main duties of the jobThe RRDN Operations Director is responsible for the operational services of the RRDN, including Study Support, Agile Research Support, regional support for Active National Delivery, Financial Management & Business Operations. The RRDN Operations Director line manages the Service/Team Leaders for the defined operational services.
Working for our organisationFrom October 2024, the current NIHR Clinical Research Network will be changing to become the NIHR Research Delivery Network. The RDN will continue to support the effective & efficient initiation and delivery of funded research across the health & care system in England.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesSTRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
- Ensure research sites have an appropriate level of funding to support and deliver core NHS service support activities.
- Work in collaboration with regional R&D departments to support the delivery of studies.
- Manage and coordinate key RRDN services.
- Budgetary management for the RRDN hosted services.
- Lead regional and national initiatives to support research delivery needs.
BUSINESS PLANNING
- Review, evaluate and approve research site delivery plans.
- Contribute to the oversight and development of RRDN business and financial plans.
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT
- Manage and coordinate key RRDN services.
- Ensure effective, high quality and nationally consistent services.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
- Engage with the regional research community to support RDN Portfolio research.
- Masters level qualification or equivalent.
- Comprehensive understanding of research and the NHS.
- Experience in health and care research sector at a senior level.
- Experience of managing health and care research support services.
- Highly developed leadership and strategic planning skills.
- Proven interpersonal skills to work with clinical and management colleagues.
- Highly motivated with the ability to lead and inspire others.
- Commitment to supporting the development of staff.
