Job Description

CrossBoundary is recruiting a full-time Senior Associate or Associate Principal to join our Power & Infrastructure Advisory Team in London or Washington, DC to lead transaction advisory work and teams focused on unlocking private capital. We seek candidates with 5+ years of relevant experience, ideally living and working in emerging markets during this time.

In your role you will lead independent workstreams and also support the sector lead in managing a team of investment professionals tasked with evaluating investment opportunities, conducting macroeconomic market assessments, and providing transaction support. Experience working with a range of stakeholders (including private equity firms, Development Finance Institutions, and development agencies) to support investments in high-impact sectors will be regarded favorably. You will also be responsible for driving business development and growing the business activities of originating transactions and projects.


Primary Responsibilities

  1. Lead and work alongside a team of project and infrastructure finance professionals executing strategic and transaction advisory engagements.
  2. Provide project leadership, direct execution and oversight to a wide range of advisory assignments:
    1. Transaction advisory: Support early and late-stage (solar, hydro, wind, biomass, and gas) projects to reach financial close, including identifying and mitigating financing barriers, optimizing project financing structures, advising on project risk allocation and legal agreements, and reviewing and building financial models.
    2. Strategic advisory: Lead clean power strategic advisory engagements for public and private sector stakeholders (e.g. roadmaps, stakeholder engagements, and capital maps).
    3. Investor advisory: Support investors in assessing their portfolio, structuring investment vehicles, deploying capital, entering new markets, exiting from assets or other areas of support.
  3. Coordinate activities with implementation partners on strategic and transaction advisory mandates.
  4. Reporting on the progress of all projects on a bi-weekly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc basis and preparing status updates to counterparties as needed.
  5. Collaborate with regional teams worldwide to support the implementation of different power and infrastructure-focused mandates and business development efforts globally bringing our sector expertise to those teams.
  6. Work with the sector lead to develop new revenue lines and frame new business pursuits, drive hiring, capacity building, performance management, and general team leadership activities.
  7. Represent CrossBoundary's power and infrastructure team in seminars and conferences with the overall objective of relationship-building and business development.
  8. Lead business development through proactive opportunity sourcing and relationship building, as well as responding to donor-funded procurements (EOIs and RFPs), including executing technical and financial proposals.
  9. Provide client coverage of investors such as private equity firms and DFIs and proactively identify advisory opportunities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

  1. Power and Infrastructure Specific:
    1. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred, ideally in Business Administration, Finance or other relevant advanced degree.
    2. 5+ years of experience at one of the following:
      1. The project finance team of top-tier investment or commercial bank or DFI or specialist advisor with proven success; or
      2. An asset manager investing in energy or infrastructure; or
      3. A clean energy project developer with a sizable project portfolio.
    3. Experience sourcing, advising on, and closing transactions in emerging markets in the energy transition sector or broader infrastructure sectors.
    4. Demonstrated ability to project manage complex transactions, strategic advisory engagements, and team members.
    5. The following experiences will be regarded favorably:
      1. Experience taking a power or infrastructure project from origination to financial close in emerging or frontier markets.
      2. Experience in clean power and energy transition strategic advisory engagements with public and private sector stakeholders (e.g. roadmaps, stakeholder engagements, and capital maps).
    6. General:
      1. Experience working with development finance institutions, e.g., IFC, AfDB, DFC, FMO, AFD; development agencies, e.g., USAID, UKAID, JICA; to support investments in high-impact sectors, will be strongly prioritized.
      2. Experience in, understanding of, and interest in working in underserved markets.
      3. Demonstrated attention to detail while maintaining a holistic picture of overall goals.
      4. Excellent analytical ability and discipline, ability to think clearly and communicate effectively, solve problems, and a voracious hunger to learn in complex situations.
      5. Exceptional management skills with an ability to serve as a coach and mentor to the team; can lead the team to results in challenging circumstances but also be a strong independent operator.
      6. English (working proficiency) required; Spanish, or French are a preference but not required.
