In today's competitive market landscape, the essence of success lies in making smart, data-driven choices. The ideal candidate will possess a secure technical background along with core consulting, advisory or operational experience, and will play a pivotal role in guiding our clients through strategic and operational change. Joining our team means working with some of the most renowned names in the financial services industry, where your contributions will be vital to our collective success.

The opportunity

As financial crime reaches new levels of sophistication, firms are seeking a balance between efficiency and effectiveness to disrupt it. Firms need our support in striking this balance as well as navigating constantly evolving financial crime risk and regulatory landscape.

We're currently growing our Financial Crime Consulting practice to meet increasing demand for our services. Our clients continue to look for innovative technical and operational solutions to deal with evolving financial crime regulatory landscape, changing customer expectations, and financial crime threats presented by technological advancements. At EY, we help our clients develop and optimise financial crime controls and operating models, adapt to regulatory change and gain independent view on effectiveness of systems and controls.

Your key responsibilities

  • Assess clients' Anti Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) and Countering Proliferation Financing (CPF) systems and controls against regulatory requirements, expectations and industry practices, including identifying gaps and areas of enhancements.
  • Support with engagement planning, management and delivery, including leading our teams in a variety of interesting and exciting financial crime engagements.
  • Work as part of a team to create valuable and practical insights for our clients, adapting methods and practices to fit their business needs.
  • Provide input into the development of innovative solutions to address complex financial crime risks and issues and help our clients meet global regulatory expectations.
  • Assist with the formulation of detailed reports and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Support client bids and business development opportunities.
  • Contribute to developing EY's financial crime solutions, campaigns and go-to-market activities.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Strong understanding of UK and EU AML and sanctions regulations and how to apply for identifying and mitigating financial crime risks.
  • Knowledge of regulatory landscape and expectations and industry best practice.
  • A clear understanding of the strategic implications of global financial crime regulation.
  • Skilled at building relationships with colleagues across the business, supporting them and promoting a collaborative culture.
  • A background in change or transformational projects.
  • Learning agility, being quick to learn and apply new knowledge and skills, and willing to continuously develop professionally.
  • Comfortable with change and able to adjust strategies and approaches in dynamic environments.
  • Skilled in time management, and proficient at managing multiple tasks and priorities efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • A sound understanding of the core business processes operated within a range of financial services organisations, ideally including the Banking, Capital Markets, Wealth/Assessment Management and/or Payments sectors.

To qualify for the role you must have some or all of the following:

  • Experience of financial crime compliance/risk management experience: this could include in 1LOD or 2LOD at a regulated financial institution, capital markets, payments, an asset management, or professional services firm or in a client-facing role at a consulting practice.
  • Functional knowledge of the UK and European financial crime regulatory environment (with knowledge of the global environment an advantage).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate information and perspectives from multiple sources, and present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • AML and/or Sanctions work experience/professional qualification required with knowledge of other areas of financial crime areas also beneficial.
  • Sound technical knowledge of financial services businesses and products.
  • The ability to work with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
  • A real desire to work as part of a team.
  • Strong academic background, ideally to a degree level or equivalent.
  • Flexibility to travel and work full-time on assignments, as necessary.
  • A background in a financial crime advisory or first line operational role within the financial services industry and/or in a client-facing consulting role.
