We are currently looking for a dynamic individual to join our Compliance Practiceas a Senior Operational Risk Project Manager joining an Embedded risk function.

You will be responsible for driving projects involving the first, Second and Third Line Risk functions, providing oversight and challenge to key strategic change programmes.

This role is crucial for supporting the safe and effective delivery of change initiatives that impact the operational resilience of the bank ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal bodies.

You will work closely with Senior stakeholders, technical teams, senior leadership, and partners across the Three Lines of Defence to deliver on both the strategic and technical aspects of change, ensuring risks are adequately identified, assessed, and mitigated.

The role:

  • Support the Head of Operational Risk in embedding the risk management framework, providing assurance to senior leadership on the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management to mitigate key operational, regulatory and conduct risks.

  • Represent risk on business projects, to ensure delivery risks have been considered and are appropriately managed with the business and the risk teams on the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management practices in mitigating key operational, regulatory, and conduct risks across the bank.

  • Manage relationships at all levels with a sufficient depth of technical and business understanding of their area, project deliverables, priorities and risks, ensuring that key risks are visible and appropriately managed throughout the life cycle of the Project/Programme.

  • Assessing business area compliance against the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) requirements. The ERMF includes business and regulatory requirements on, risks, controls, policies, and scenario analysis.

  • Working collaboratively with partners across the 3LOD to simplify and strengthen project risk management practices for the benefit of the business.

  • Providing effective insight and presenting at programme steering, working groups, and risk and control governance forums/committee

  • Work closely with programme managers, technical change teams, senior leadership teams, as well as partners across the Three Lines of Defense and UK Regulators

Key Skills and Experience:

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • In depth knowledge of different types of operational risks, systems and processes including risk management frameworks, control frameworks and standards and operational resilience.

  • A proven track record in leading and delivering complex projects, particularly within the retail banking sector with a strong technical understanding.

  • Experience working in a 2nd or 3rd line function would be advantageous, but not essential.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with experience engaging regularly with senior stakeholders and building high-value relationships at all levels.

  • Familiarity with assessing and managing risks in line with an Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) and knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements within financial services.

  • Ability to rapidly assimilate complex technical information, assess risks, and provide clear, actionable insights to support informed decision-making.

  • Ability to stay calm under pressure, with a focus on the bigger picture and navigating change in a dynamic and evolving environment.
