Job Description

As a Senior Risk & Governance Officer, you will play a crucial role in managing and mitigating risks across the organization. You'll provide strategic oversight and operational execution to ensure that all necessary governance controls are in place, guiding stakeholders at all levels. The role requires someone with strong commercial acumen, capable of simplifying complex challenges and driving effective risk management and governance.

Success in this role will require a robust understanding of effective risk management and governance arrangements and the ability to engage and influence high-level stakeholders across the business.

You will be working on a hybrid basis predominantly working from home and coming into the office as business requires. We're flexible about where you might be based to undertake this role.

About the role

  • Risk Leadership & Facilitation:
    Lead discussions with senior executives and committees on key risks, providing actionable insights for decision-making.
  • Strategic Risk Management:
    Oversee risk identification and evaluation, ensuring strategic initiatives address operational, financial, and reputational risks.
  • Commercial Risk Mitigation:
    Collaborate with department heads to prioritize risks and lead scenario analyses to assess their impact on business performance.
  • Governance:
    Ensure governance processes are in place to reliably identify and manage risks across commercial, regulatory, and compliance activities.
  • Risk Assessment & Monitoring:
    Conduct risk assessments, monitor risk metrics, and maintain a comprehensive risk register.
  • Reporting:
    Provide clear, timely risk reports for senior leadership, trustees, and committees, communicating key exposures and mitigation progress.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
    Ensure risk management processes comply with laws and industry standards, maintaining high audit performance.
  • Risk Culture Promotion:
    Foster a proactive risk-aware culture across the organization through training, workshops, and ongoing communication.
About You:

  • Proven experience in leading risk management and governance processes within an organization.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and trends for informed decision-making.
  • Expertise in enterprise-wide risk frameworks, including operational, financial, and regulatory risks.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex risk concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and build a risk-aware culture.
  • Experience in adapting to changing market conditions and regulatory landscapes.
  • Leadership abilities with experience in mentoring risk professionals.
  • Knowledge of risk frameworks such as COSO ERM, NIST, or ISO 31000.

Whilst not mandatory, it would be beneficial if you have previous experience in education.
