Job Description

Position Summary:

Managing and leading a team of tax specialists and coordinators, setting performance goals, providing guidance, conducting training, and ensuring the team's overall effectiveness and development. Providing tax-related training and guidance to employees within the insurance company to ensure awareness and compliance with tax regulations. Also involved in addressing and resolving tax-related inquiries from policyholders, agents, or other stakeholders.

What will your job entail?

TAX MANAGER - INTERNATIONAL

Role

Reporting to the Finance Director and Global Head of tax in the US, the successful candidate will provide strategic support to the business along with overseeing and managing the compliance with all appropriate tax legislations across Ryan Specialty Entities ("Ryan") for international business.

Key responsibilities

Tax compliance and reporting

  • Working collaboratively with the Finance Director and other members of the Finance team to source data for tax purposes and to contribute in the efficient preparation of annual tax compliance and reporting obligations.
  • Liaise with the outsourcing service provider and oversee fulfillment of all tax compliance and reporting requirements across all jurisdictions where Ryan is present.
  • Collaborate with US HQ and the Finance Controller/ other members of the Finance team to provide data, respond to queries and undertake any other relevant task that may be required to enable compliance with statutory obligations relating to corporate tax across all jurisdictions where Ryan is present.
  • Ensuring that Ryan meets all its statutory obligations and reporting requirements for tax purposes and submits accurate and timely tax returns to the relevant tax authorities.
  • Ensuring that all data requirements for tax purposes are appropriately captured and communicated to key internal stakeholders, so that tax requirements are monitored for ongoing compliance.
  • Monitoring operational tax and reporting obligations and identifying potential filing requirements.
  • Delivering on internal tax reporting obligations, including to the US headquarters.

Strategic support from tax perspective

  • Support from a tax perspective on advisory and planning projects.
  • Work collaboratively with all Ryan colleagues to develop and communicate tax policies across Ryan. Oversee the development of appropriate tax governance to ensure policy objectives are achieved, good communication channels are created and information delivered.
  • Lead Ryan's response to new tax risks. Disseminate information and knowledge across the Tax Team to ensure all tax risks are informed. Deliver and execute a considered and focused plan to mitigate tax risks.
  • Collect and share legislative, business and industry developments with Ryan. Lead the communication and sharing of these with internal stakeholders to identify risk and opportunities.
  • Represent Tax for Business Partnering purposes and clearly communicating tax positions across Ryan.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including professional advisors and tax authorities.
  • Proactively keep up to date with tax legislative developments across all taxes, across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Develop and run projects around tax opportunities and legislative developments. This includes building and maintaining project momentum.
  • Ensuring the adherence of individual and project deadlines.
  • Respond to ad-hoc queries requiring tax technical inputs from a tax legislative perspective.

Requirements, Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least six years post-qualification (ACA or CTA) experience;
  • Strong technical skills, with a good level of demonstrable indirect tax experience in the UK and awareness of EU Indirect tax and global indirect taxes;
  • Awareness and understanding of accounting principles and other tax areas such as corporate tax and transfer pricing. Knowledge of US GAAP would be preferable;
  • Excellent team player, strong relationship skills and ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally;
  • A self-starter who must be able to effectively build relationships with and advise internal senior stakeholders and collaborate in delivering pragmatic solutions;
  • A willingness to travel across the EMEA region, when required.
  • Ability to deliver projects to agreed deadlines and budgets under pressure.
  • Ability to work in an unstructured and fluid environment.
  • Ability to work in complex, interdependent scenarios and situations.
  • Motivated to provide the highest standard of delivery and demand the same of others.
  • Critically review and interpret information and recommend a course of action.
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with conflict and drive for results.
  • Work effectively within a team and with external parties on dynamic projects and be able to respond to changes quickly and effectively.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, high level of proficiency on Excel.
