The in-house operation

The IT department is responsible for and designs the entire IT of the City of Munich. We ensure that IT provision meets the city's current and future needs. We drive the digitalization of the city of Munich and play a pioneering role. Our work and services make the city of Munich a digital metropolis that sets standards that its employees are proud of.

As part of the IT department, we ensure a modern IT and telecommunications infrastructure, implement professional IT solutions and secure the IT operations of the City of Munich with over 1,200 employees in our own company

What you can expect

With around 600 employees, the Infrastructure, Basic Services and Support (IBS) business unit is responsible for the city's IT workplace including support for users, the city-wide network infrastructure including its own data center and the associated on-premises services as well as the connection of external cloud providers and a cybersecurity center.

As the direct contact person for the Infrastructure, Basic Services and Support business unit management, your task is to increase efficiency and performance through strategy development and implementation. You will help to define business goals and requirements and identify opportunities and challenges in order to strengthen the conceptual direction and medium and long-term visions for the future. You will also draw up recommendations for action and keep a constant eye on industry trends.

You have
  • a successfully completed university degree at Master's level in the field of computer science or business informatics or
  • a successfully completed university degree at Master's level with many years (at least three years) of professional experience in the IT sector
In particular, you will have
  • Expertise in the field of client-server and web-based solutions as well as cloud computing, business knowledge, in particular knowledge of profitability analyses and cost estimates, expertise in IT service and operations management as well as in ITIL processes and in legal and regulatory frameworks, in particular in data protection and cyber security
  • Communication skills, in particular the ability to present complex interrelationships in an understandable way
  • Ability to innovate, in particular problem-solving skills
The following are an advantage
  • Professional experience in a comparable function in an organization of a similar size
  • Knowledge of structural and process organization
  • Ability to work in the field of tension between a modern IT service provider and the realities of the public sector
