Our client, a conservation charity is looking for a new systems engineer for their technology operations change team. The role is responsible for actively contributing technical expertise to technology projects into the organisation and at times leading small changes.
You will work alongside architects, testers, project and product managers, and other engineers to research, design and deliver technology solutions culminating in a handover to the live operations team.
What's the role about?
As an engineer in the technology operations change team, you will take on a variety of tasks, from designing and planning solutions to meet user requirements through to managing software and hardware rollouts and documentation. You will also work as part of a larger team to bring organisation wide projects to completion.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important in this role as you work with a range of technical and non-technical audiences. The ability to gather and analyse requirements is key as you work to select appropriate solutions and then go onto deliver them.
You will have a good breadth of knowledge as you will work across a very wide range of technologies. You will often find yourself learning something completely different, so a positive approach to the unknown is welcome. The organisation offers learning time and courses as needed.
You will work alongside colleagues in the technology operations run team, to ensure solutions are delivered into operational support smoothly and assist them with your expertise on the tactical demands for resolving incidents and problems.
Above all else, you'll be an advocate for saving nature. Nature is in big trouble - the climate crisis and loss of habitat are pushing some of our best loved species towards extinction. The charity won't let nature fall silent. This role is your chance to make real change possible.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Proven experience in a networking/IT environment and a good understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Experience of supporting and maintaining systems in a Microsoft Client Server environment. You will have sound knowledge of MS operating systems and the assorted services that a typical domain uses (DNS, Active Directory, SCCM, SCOM, DHCP, Group Policy etc).
- Experience across a range of infrastructure technologies such as VMWare ESX, Hyper-V, Aruba, Microsoft clustering, SAN technologies.
- Experience with Azure SaaS and PaaS technologies.
- Ability to interpret requirements from what may be non-technical user specifications.
- Ability to contribute to the development of a knowledge base and document best practices.
- Experience of cross team working to ensure items are effectively tested and delivered smoothly.
- Good communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience of working on projects, either leading small deliveries or as a member of a larger team.
- Ability to plan and progress work activities under your own initiative.
- Experience of transitioning work into operational support.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
- Experience with Microsoft 365 including Intune and Teams calling.
- Experience in monitoring and configuring networking infrastructure (in particular Aruba and Cisco).
- Experience with pipeline technologies particularly with GitHub and yaml to support delivery of changes from our development team into production.
- Experience of implementing business systems and applications.
