About the role

IWSR is expanding its Forecasting, Modelling and Scenario capabilities and seeks an experienced Econometrician or Economist as part of its expanding team. This team will produce a ten-year annual, bi-annual, and quarterly econometric forecast of the global beverage alcohol industry in collaboration with IWSR's research team. The candidate will also contribute to IWSR's consultancy projects which typically involve bespoke forecasts, scenario analysis and custom model development to support our client's business planning.

Your expertise in complex forecasting and modelling, knowledge and excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills will be invaluable as part of this expanding team. With a degree or master's in an analytical/quantitative field or relevant professional experience, you will help us deliver high-quality forecasts and provide analytical advice to our consultancy clients.

Primary duties and responsibilities

This role will report to the IWSR's Head of Forecasting and work towards ensuring that IWSR's forecasts and models are market-leading in terms of quality, relevance, and reliability. The successful candidate will be rigorous, adaptable, and creative in seeking solutions to difficult forecasting and modelling questions. The candidate will take on a range of tasks that include:

Lead the production of ten-year beverage alcohol forecasts across 160+ countries, with bi-annual and quarterly forecast updates with precision and efficiency, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our forecasts

Conduct in-depth statistical analyses to uncover short-term and long-term patterns, product interdependencies, trends, and opportunities for forecast improvements

Collaborate with IWSR colleagues to communicate findings and insights through clear and compelling project reports and presentations

Produce bespoke models and forecasts for our consulting clients and manage client queries

Oversee the recruitment of junior econometricians to build out this team

Stay abreast of innovative statistical techniques and methodologies, continuously seeking new ways to extract value from data to improve IWSR forecasts, models, and scenarios.

Skills and experience

Experience: Over 7 years of experience in leading and executing time series and econometric forecasting and modeling projects.

Sector Knowledge: Preferably experienced and knowledgeable in the FMCG sector.

Qualifications: Advanced degree in an analytical or quantitative field, or equivalent professional experience.

Communication: Exceptional ability to distill complex topics into clear, relevant messages for diverse audiences, both orally and in writing.

Stakeholder Engagement: Proficient in developing strategic relationships and collaborating effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Organizational Skills: Strong understanding of project management, with the ability to proactively prioritize, plan, and schedule complex and varied tasks.

Analytical Skills: Advanced analytical skills using relevant software packages (e.g., R, STATA, PYTHON, SQL) and/or advanced Excel skills. Passionate about innovation and problem-solving, with the ability to think creatively and critically to address challenges and seize opportunities.

Team Management: Proven experience in successful line management and/or leading a team of analysts.
