Job Description

As an Actuarial Software Engineer you will utilise your expertise in MS SQL Server and Python to create and manage comprehensive software solutions.

  • Salary Range: £55k-£65k
  • Location: Hybrid/London
  • 5+ years experience within the reserving team of the actuarial function

This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of insurance innovation. As an Actuarial Software Engineer within the actuarial function, you will utilise your expertise in MS SQL Server and Python to create and manage comprehensive software solutions, streamlining actuarial calculations, data storage, and assumption management.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Python and SQL Server infrastructure support to the reserving team during intra-quarter periods and peak cycles, referring to key actuarial principles.
  • Create custom reporting scripts and stored procedures in SQL Server Management Studio, PyCharm, or VSCode to meet team reporting requests.
  • Enhance current data ingestion processes using Python.
  • Implement effective environmental controls to separate DEV and PROD Servers.
  • Introduce version control for team scripts using Azure DevOps or GitHub.
  • Redesign the existing DEV server with modern database principles.
  • Automate routine actuarial calculations using Python and/or SQL Server to extend the codebase.

Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years demonstrable experience within the reserving team of the actuarial function
  • Advanced T-SQL querying skills and strong knowledge of database design, indexing, and performance optimization, including reading execution plans.
  • Demonstrated experience managing small-scale on-premise SQL Server databases with database administration concepts.
  • Advanced Python programming skills in data science.
  • Experience using Python with SQL Server, including pyodbc/sqlalchemy and MS Excel.
  • Exposure to Power BI reporting skills and actuarial business knowledge.
