Job Description

Aircraft Structural Analysis Engineer
Outside IR35
12 months
Hybrid, 3 days per week in the Bristol office
Start ASAP

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in stress analysis for primary and secondary aircraft structures, including both composite and metallic materials.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct stress analysis on metallic and composite structural components.
Collaborate with teams to review and analyze structural modifications for compliance with relevant aviation regulations (eg, FAR, CAR).
Develop and refine Global Finite Element Models (GFEM) for load analysis.
Create Detailed Finite Element Models (DFEM) for sizing complex components.
Utilize classical methods to develop analysis templates for structural evaluation.
Review and interpret technical results, presenting findings during design review stages such as Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
Ensure high-quality deliverables with a focus on on-time project completion.
Facilitate project review meetings to share insights, lessons learned, and best practices to enhance team output.
Offer innovative solutions for addressing field-related structural issues.
Drive process optimization by developing automation tools for analysis workflows.
Support product development by addressing complex CAE challenges and validating design modifications using FEA.
Exhibit strong technical expertise, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills.

Required Technical Expertise:

Proficient in structural analysis tools such as MSC Nastran/Patran, HyperMesh, or similar platforms.
Skilled in creating 2D and 3D finite element models of varying complexity (eg, plate, hexahedral, and tetrahedral elements).
Experience with linear and non-linear static stress analysis, including geometric, material, and contact non-linearities.
Ability to modify bulk data files for MSC Nastran, debug errors, and manage batch analysis for multiple datasets.
Competent in performing hand calculations for structural failure modes and proposing suitable methodologies.
Familiarity with strength, stability, and durability requirements for structural components.
Capable of conducting fatigue and damage tolerance (F&DT) analyses.
Experience in Scripting and automation tools, including modifying TCL macros, developing MS Excel templates, and working with VBA.
Expertise in developing and updating finite element models for complex metallic and composite structures.
Knowledge of processes and methodologies aligned with leading aerospace programs (eg, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, or defense sectors).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Proficiency in Scripting languages such as Python, TCL/Tk, Mathcad, or VBA.
Basic knowledge of CAD tools.
Familiarity with the product development life cycle for aircraft components, including design, analysis, and manufacturing stages.
Experience with PLM tools like Teamcenter or Windchill.
Familiarity with ISAMI or other specialized tools used in aerospace structural analysis.
Stress signatory experience is a significant advantage.
