Description The Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) is seeking to appoint a Director within the Risk and Capital Management division. The successful candidate will lead AFME's work in the area of bank recovery and resolution and coordinate the UK policy area for prudential regulation and supervision, including leading on assigned policy files for the UK and EU. The candidate will also lead AFME's non-bank financial institution and banking union policy area. The successful candidate will join a team of highly skilled professionals, working closely with leading global banks and be involved in communication with high profile authorities like central banks and national and international policy making bodies.

Description The Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) is seeking to appoint a Director within the Risk and Capital Management division. The successful candidate will lead AFME's work in the area of bank recovery and resolution and coordinate the UK policy area for prudential regulation and supervision, including leading on assigned policy files for the UK and EU. The candidate will also lead AFME's non-bank financial institution and banking union policy area. The successful candidate will join a team of highly skilled professionals, working closely with leading global banks and be involved in communication with high profile authorities like central banks and national and international policy making bodies.
Key Responsibilities Policy formation:
- Leading AFME's work in particular regulatory and supervisory issues concerning areas bank recovery and resolution as well own funds, leverage ratio and large exposures. Responsibilities may vary over time, and are likely to reflect the evolution of the EU and UK prudential and supervisory framework in light of international developments (Basel, FSB, etc), as well as reviewing current and forthcoming policy output
- Leading AFME's non-bank financial institution and banking union policy areas
- Responding to consultation papers on behalf of AFME members and producing other policy and advocacy materials
- Providing prudential input into cross cutting or horizontal initiatives together with colleagues from other AFME divisions
- Contributing as required to the regulatory work of our global association, GFMA, which brings together AFME and its sister organisations in the US and Asia
- Guiding and shadowing the work of other colleagues.
- Horizon scanning and forward-looking policy analysis
- Analyse, assess and contextualise regulatory and supervisory requirements and proposals
- Identify and build common industry wide positions on the challenges and solutions
- Prepare and share regulatory updates for the membership on relevant policies
- Drive cross-cutting interaction of proposals across the regulatory and supervisory risk and capital framework
- Develop and contribute to AFME's data and policy publications
- Work with relevant colleagues across AFME to support consistent policy positions in the field of banking regulation and supervision
- Support team members in areas of policy which are linked to credit risk and sustainable finance risks (e.g. cross-cutting regulation/supervision in Capital Markets and/or the Securitisation Division)
- Ensure integration of policy and advocacy work
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Essential:
- Relevant experience in policy making in recovery and resolution and/or prudential regulation and supervision
- In depth knowledge of recovery and resolution and/or prudential regulation and supervision framework in the EU and UK
- Proficient understanding of capital structures, financial accounting and financial disclosure rules and knowledge of innovations in financial products, technology and markets
- Experience in exchanges with regulators and supervisors
- Independent approach to work with strong ability to prioritise
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to translate technical concepts into easily understandable language
- Experience in committee-led work environments and proven experience in stakeholder management
- Strong academic track record
- Excellent analytical and report writing skills
- Strong time management and organisational ability
- Good levels of IT proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience in presenting in front of a senior audience
- Experience in international coordination and decision making
- Experience in group-capital management (regulatory and economic) and supervisory reviews and assessments
- Prior work experience in public policy making
- Second or third European language
