Capital Projects Director at The Crown Estate

Purpose of Role: Lead and inspire our capital projects teams across London and Regional businesses. Ensure the successful budgeting, planning, and phased delivery of individual projects and programmes (up to £10m), within the framework of a Programme Management Office (PMO). Provide strategic leadership, direction, and management of project resources and external PMO setup.

Context of Opportunity / Main Accountabilities:

• Act as the internal business interface, holding corporate governance accountability for Regional and London-based Capex projects and building surveying initiatives.
• Devise and implement the strategy and business plan for Capex projects and Building Surveying Initiatives, ensuring alignment with asset/site-wide activities and strategies, including sustainability and The Crown Estate's Net Zero Commitment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop annual capital budgets, pipeline registers, and phased execution plans.
• Ensure minimal impact on customers during project delivery and coordinate with adjacent leadership teams to mitigate the period, cost, and impact of multiple work streams.
• Lead the overall delivery of all Capex projects and Building Surveying Initiatives, ensuring budget adherence and phased project milestones.
• Provide regular reports to senior management on project progress, budget, risk, and quality.
• Promote a Safety First approach and ensure compliance with The Crown Estate policies and guidance.
• Manage contractor and consultant relationships, ensuring performance management and compliance.
• Drive and deliver The Crown Estate's sustainability objectives through the capital projects business plan.
• Implement risk management strategies across all strategic, programme, and project-based activities.

Most Important Skills-Based Requirements:

• Proven track record at a senior director level of leading multiple mixed-use fit-out and repurposing projects, including residential, office, leisure, and retail markets.
• Significant post-qualification experience, RICS or APM qualified within a project management, CIOB, and/or building surveying background.
• Formal engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) and extensive knowledge of project planning, implementation, and management.
• Demonstrable experience in leading a PMO and ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
• Proven experience in delivering exceptional sustainability initiatives.
• Excellent negotiation, influence, and relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
• Experience in C-Level reporting and leading teams to achieve high performance.
• Strong leadership, vision setting, and strategic planning capabilities.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships.
• Innovative approach to project management and collaboration.
