Job Description
Doctors Direct have an exciting opportunity for a Psychiatrist Consultant to work with us at Barnet, West CAHMS in Child and Adolescent neurodevelopmental, Psychiatry.
We are looking for a doctor dedicated to, and passionate about, improving health and wellbeing within the Edgeware Community on the ward in outpatient services.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Assessment and Diagnosis
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and neurodevelopmental assessments, including clinical interviews.
Diagnose a range of neurodevelopmental disorders such as ASD, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and Tourette's syndrome, often alongside co-occurring mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, depression).
Formulation and Treatment Planning:
Develop individualized care plans that include pharmacological (e.g., prescribing medications like stimulants for ADHD) and non-pharmacological interventions (e.g., cognitive-behavioural therapy, family therapy).
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists) to ensure holistic care for the child and family.
Management of Complex Cases:
Work with children with complex needs, which may include challenging behaviour's, severe autism, or comorbid psychiatric conditions.
Provide crisis intervention and support to families in managing behaviours and symptoms that disrupt daily life.
Family and Caregiver Support:
Offer guidance to families and caregivers, helping them understand the child's diagnosis, treatment options, and how to support their child's development.
Liaison with Schools and Other Agencies:
Work closely with schools, educational psychologists, and social services to coordinate support in educational settings.
Provide expert advice to external agencies on managing children with NDDs in various contexts (e.g., school, community).
Medication Management:
Prescribe and monitor the use of medications for managing symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, and other co-occurring conditions.
Ensure that treatment is evidence-based, regularly reviewed, and tailored to the child's changing needs.
Risk Assessment:
Carry out risk assessments for children with self-harm tendencies, aggressive behaviour, or other risky behaviours.
Develop safety plans and coordinate with external services (e.g., social workers) when necessary.

Days per week: Monday - Friday 9am -5pm - Remote working: one day per week only
Start date : ASAP
Rate of pay: Negotiable
Essential special training: S12 / AC
