A consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist is required for the City & Hackney Specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. This long-established service provides assessment and treatment for young people up to the age of 18 years, their families, and carers living in the borough and has an excellent reputation.

The post-holder would be expected to provide Consultant input and clinical leadership to the Emotional & Behavioural Pathway. The role includes providing psychiatric assessment and treatment, contributing a psychiatric perspective, providing senior clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, offering consultation to other professionals and agencies, and facilitating the development of the team and wider service.

Main Duties of the Job

You will join 5 (4.0 WTE) other Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists based in C&H CAMHS. In addition to the above clinical duties, the role includes clinical supervision, teaching, training, and research. The Service participates in the Trust's active and extensive Healthcare Governance and Quality Improvement agenda.

The local population is very diverse with high levels of deprivation. There are good working relationships with Community CAMHS, Social Care, Education, and Third Sector agencies through the C&H CAMHS Alliance.

Applications will be welcomed from candidates included in or eligible for the Specialist Register or those within six months of obtaining the CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Person Specification Education

• Full GMC registration
• MRCPsych parts 1 & 2 or equivalent
• Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT in the appropriate specialty (or within 6 months)
• Section 12 approved and Approved Clinician status or willing to apply for approval
• Higher academic degree

Experience

• Possesses an extensive range of clinical knowledge and excellent clinical skills.
• Experience of assessment and management of children and young people with complex mental health disorders

Communication

• Excellent communication skills with a range of different people
• Shows enthusiasm and initiative in pursuing innovation and the highest standards for patients, juniors, colleagues, and the organisation

Teaching

• Experience of teaching in small groups and lecturing
• Commitment to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, academic and clinical
• Familiarity with problem-based learning approaches

Management/Audit

• Enthusiastic and organised approach to audit and quality assurance
• Training in management skills
• Experience of management of a clinical area
• Experience of service development

Research

• Experience in a research project
• Publication accepted by peer-reviewed journals in a relevant academic field
• Ability to travel to other venues in the community including patients' homes
• Driving license

Other

• Meets professional health requirements
