An exciting opportunity for a substantive consultant post in the Gastroenterology service at St Mark's National Bowel Hospital has arisen. We are looking for individuals with an interest in hepatology and liver disease and who may have an interest in ERCP but not essential. This is an excellent chance to work in a world renowned Centre of Excellence.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

  • Endoscopy/Opportunity for ERCP
  • Ward cover on a 1:5 rota
  • There is also the opportunity to work additional WLI's to assist with reducing backlog and waiting times
  • Opportunity for researchOur gastroenterology department is an internationally renowned centre of clinical excellence. The department has clinics at the Trust's four hospitals - St Mark's, Central Middlesex, Northwick Park and Ealing - and provides an extensive range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services. We see both local and nationally referred patients.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MRCP
  • Certification of Completion of Specialist Training
  • Accreditation in general internal medicine and gastroenterology
  • Higher Degree
Registration
  • On GMC registered Medical Practitioner
  • GMC specialist registration or within 6 months of CCT
Knowledge and Expertise
  • IT Skills and computer Literacy
  • Experience in managing acute gastroenterology / general level II hepatology
  • Skilled in clinical gastroenterology and endoscopic investigations
  • NHS experience within the last 3 years
  • Interest in the development of out-patient management of liver disease
  • General ERCP skills and or delivery
  • Experience in service Redesign
Teaching
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
Management and Audit
  • Competent in medical audit
  • An understanding of the Health Service agenda for the next 10 years and corporate governance
  • Evidence of management training.
  • An understanding of techniques to improve efficiency and productivity of clinic processes
Research/publications
  • Good track record of publications in gastroenterology / hepatology or a related field
  • Evidence of active research with either record of winning grants or publishing peer reviewed articles as well as chapters and papers
  • Evidence of giving successful presentations
Language
  • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements

  • Team worker Leadership qualities
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to organise learning and time
  • Clear evidence of ability to collaborate and work with all colleagues including nurses
